I couldn't find any information on the forum about these two tires: Shinko 712 and SR741.
The 712 seems to be a more road-oriented alternative to the 705; the SR741 seems to be geared for cruisers.
They both come in 150/70-17, are 69 H rated, so as far as I can tell they should be able to fit our bikes. Both are cheaper than the 705, the 712 more so.

I couldn't find any in-depth reviews for the SR741, and could only find one 712 review. There are several posts about 712 on the StormTrooper forums and people generally seem to like it.

Am I missing anything? Any reason not to try these?

Didn't like the 712s at all on a buddies tiger 800, I felt safer on 705s. They handled pretty well but they are the only tire I've ever gotten that bike to activate abs with and that includes e07 panic stopping for deer. It wasn't just once or twice either the rear seemed to activate the abs regularly. Can't really describe what I didn't like about them other than a feeling but I'd 50/50 knobbles before buying a set of 712s. Just my 2 cents I know they are cheap enough to warrant a second look as long as it's done by someone other than my self. If you were closer he's probably give you the set as they came off after the 2nd week.

My father is running a set of the 741s on his Vulcan 1700 he hadn't had anything bad to say about them but they are definitely a cruiser tire. They seem to handle the weight and torque of that bike pretty well. I mounted them with balance beads and he has never complained about them to me.
