Sheepskin or Beadrider?

As I'm riding around on my day off my rear is becoming more and more uncomfortable. So, on a rain break, I thought I'd ask this question:

What's your preference: The sheepskin from Alaska Leathers or the taxi-driver beads from Beadrider?

I'm still paying for this thing, so no new seats for a while, and I've tried the Spencer mod on a previous bike and could not tell the difference.

But I want to do something.

Neither. I much prefer the Airhawk. Works like a charm. The trick is to not over-inflate it.

You're close to Corpus, right?

I've got an Alaska Leathers sheepskin you can borrow to try if you like. I take with me on really long, out-of-state trips just to have for a change of pace now and then, so I don't want to sell it... But I don't plan on any of those until at least August so I could let you test-fly it for a bit.

Just lemme' know... :)

I have the medium Alaskan Leather sheepskin buttpad on my ST10 and it's nice on most days. It immediately extended my comfort in the saddle time by a factor of two. I still have problems with pressure points that start hurting after a couple of hours though. Bottom line is I have to stop and get off the bike every 100 miles.

The sheepskin does allow air flow when it's hot out but I'm considering trying the Beadrider as the hotter it gets, the sooner my butt starts to hurt.

::008:: I have used the beads and Alaskan butt pad both of which did help me with comfort on long saddle days. I find the AirHawk the most comfy if inflated just enough to keep one's read end off the seat. The air flows from chamber to chamber as the rider shifts in the seat. YCMV

I've got both beads and sheep skin. Here, in the Florida heat, I use the sheep skin to keep the seat cool when parked outdoors in the summer sun. The beads I sometimes take along when traveling.... in the rain they help keep my arse above the puddle that forms in the seat.

What problem are you having with the seat? ? If it the "balls on the tank" issue neither will fix that, I tried and then bought a Sargent Cycle seat.

I just bought a sheepskin. Tried it on the Explorer but same size fits both it and my new S10. It's nice, cooler and more comfortable. I think the problem is that both Yamaha and Triumph are using a "no slip" material for the seat covers. It grabs your pants so everything starts rubbing around inside of them creating hot spots. Polyester sports underwear helps a lot and is cheaper than recovering your seat.

You might check with your local upholstery shop if you don't care for the grippy seat material. When I first got my S10 in July, 2011, I took the front seat to a local shop and had them make and install a non grip cover made of decent looking vinyl. Cost was only $35.

I may give this a try. The grippy top is my least favorite thing about the stock seat.

It's definitely the pressure points and the "hot spots" that come from no airflow and not being able to slide around a bit. It's not horrible, but we all like to fine-tune our bikes to make them work better. Yesterday when everything was damp from the rain it was worse.

First, I would say that is the best OEM seat I've ever sat on. However, if I'm going to be on the moto for 10 hours for multiple days, than I will take my Airhawk with me. I take it on and off to give different pressure points. On a side note, I bought the heated seat pad from Rider Warehouse and slid inside the Airhawk, that way if I'm driving for 10 hours or more on sub temp days, I have a heated seat.

I would agree that the S/10 seat is one of the best I've had, that said long days in the saddle make me wish for something else. So I purchased a Airhawk ll, it's OK, but I get tired of that on a steady diet also. Changing back and forth seems to be the best solution for me. What your wearing has a lot to do with any seat. Flat seamed undies and pants for long days. I have several bikeing shorts and don't seem to like sitting on the padding either. Stopping to stretch my legs solves most of it.

Had a buddy get his seat redone at a local marina. He got a good quality job with high end vinyl, the kind of vinyl designed to withstand sun & salt. He seemed pretty happy with it.

Anyone know where I can find a sheep skin cover that covers the whole seat and is held on with an elastic hem all around?

I use a Bead Rider year round. Nice in the summer, lets the air flow. Also keeps you off the rain a bit. Cover it with an Alaska sheepskin in the cold months. Get combo.

I've also use the Air Hawk. Bought my first Tenere then two weeks later left for a 4K+ mile ride with only an Air Hawk. It works, but I got annoyed at the constant need to change air pressure. Fill it up in the cool morning, by afternoon the air has expanded and you're sitting on a balloon. Let some air out...whoops, too much. Stop blow it up again and repeat process. Got annoying. Haven't used it since getting the seat mod and bead rider. No question it does work, but I really didn't care for the attention it needs on long rides.

I don't have a ton of miles on the S10 yet but the foam in the stock seat feels pretty good. I like the idea of having it recovered in a smoother vinyl.

My thoughts too, but then I own the hawk. How bout combing the sheep skin and the beads?

Nothing with elastic. Sheepskin is a bit too stiff to get a good hem into it. I've seen straps, no clue if they were rigid or elastic, but they will keep it from blowing away.

I just returned from 5 days in the North Carolina mountains. I used a sheepskin and the bead rider. By the time I returned home in Indiana, I could barely walk as I had developed some serious welts. So I am ready to trash both the sheep skin and the bead rider. I am going to go buy the new air hawk today that came out this spring to fit dual sport seats. It is called the air hawk ds cruiser, 11 1/2 inches deep and 11 inches wide. Hope this solves the problem. Jbird
