Does anyone have this headset? If so, what are your impressions? For my use, I don't think I'll be using all of the functions of something like the Scalarider G9, so I can't really justify spending that much $$. Thanks.

Re: Sena SH-10

Do you mean the SMH-10?

If so, I have it and it works GREAT! I use it with my Zumo 665, XM, rider -to- ride and occasionally cell-phone. I have used both the speaker and ear-bud versions. The battery lasts, even being on 12 hours did not kill it.

I like it much, much better than the Scala Rider, mainly due the much larger control knob on the Sena. Super easy to use, no fumbling around trying to make sure you are pressing the correct button or not. Plus the Scala buttons are a royal pain to use with gloves. I returned mine for the Sena.

The volume on the Sena is better, the speakers are larger and thinner so they sound better and don't touch my ears like the thicker ones on the Scala - at least on my XD3.

Re: Sena SH-10

I'm sure the Sena is a great setup, but if you haven't experienced the Scalarider G9, you haven't experienced their latest, much improved model. I only use 1 button to turn it on when I start a ride. After that, it is all voice control, works great. The speakers have been upgraded and have much better fidelity than the G4 units.

I know that Tenerator said he couldn't justify the cost of the G9, I'm just trying to point out that they are a big improvement over Scala's earlier units.

Steve,

you mentioned you used the ear buds. some reviews stated that the sound from the ear buds is not the best. Also, mentioned that the plug for the earbuds is not the best...thoughts?

You use your own earbuds, so it depends what you are using. I use the Earfuze custom DIY earphones (www.earfuze.com). They work great.

I lucked out and received the recently modified earbud adapter - it now has a flexible socket so it will not crack like the older rigid style.

Yes, that's what I meant (SMH-10). Thanks for the info. I hope I get one that already has the flexible earbud jack.

I've had the SMH-10 for at least a year and it is terrific. Long battery life and very high volume (I had the Interphone F4 before that, which just didn't have enough volume to overcome my earplugs.) I don't do the earbuds thing as I would probably hurt myself or them pulling my helmet off. Works well with my blackberry and iPhone.

I'm another Sena user...I use the earbud clamp, and think its the best thing I have done to my bike. I still have the first gen module (not upgradeable), but will be purchasing a second gen model so that I can expand my options (I currently only use it to stream from my iPhone). I also use custom molded earbuds (got mine from Fit-Ear at AZ Bike Week); I just broke one of them and have gone back to Skull Candy's while they are being repaired; I've noticed that I run the volume higher and the seal isn't as good as the custom units.

Try the Fuze Custom earphones, only $35 for the red/blue custom fit kit. 10 minutes and your done. I think they are just as good as the custom ones I had done by.....can't remember, but they were over $125.

I was skeptical at first, but the earphones are really nice (unless you have small ear canals) and they have nice reinforced cords.

Received mine yesterday. Gave the main unit a charge while installing the clamp and speakers. Very easy install on my Neotec helmet. Took it out today after pairing it with the GPS and smart phone. I'm happy to report that everything worked 'buttery-smooth!' ::008:: I almost always have my GPS turned on because it has an integral RADAR detector, so I'm really glad it plays nicely with the headset. I have some Earfuze earbuds inbound, and will check those out with a separate bluetooth receiver before deciding about the ear bud clamp.

Note for APO shoppers: I purhased the unit Via Amazon and received it in Japan 2 days later! There was a series of events that ended up going in my favor. Couldn't ship via military postal system because they recently stopped accepting any product that contains lithium batteries, so I went directly to my Japanese address via UPS int'l. They sure have the USPS beat in so many ways! I'd be waiting until at least until the end of next week for USPS, as well as suffering through spotty tracking that dies as soon as the package leaves the U.S. UPS tracked the package from cradle to grave. Only $11.00 shipping and handling since the unit is small, so not issue there.

Had my first kinda/sorta issue after flashing with 4.0 firmware. The heasdset still works great with the phone, but doesn't play well with my Nav anymore. This Japanese nav is built for motorcycles, but is A2DP only for some strange reason. I really want to keep the voice prompts, so I ordered the SR10, so I can hard wire from the nav to the SR10, then transmit via HFP from SR10 to headset.

::026:: on the SMH-10. Wife and I don't like to leave the house without them. In fact, when her helmet was stolen a few weeks ago we backtracked a full day of the ride to replace the unit because we did not want to continue the multi-day ride without comms. They are that important to us now.

I received my Fuze earphones yesterday. All went smoothly and they fit great. I made a 'slight' modification though. I'm glad I listened to the earbuds before molding them into the compound, because my ears found the sould quality a bit tinny. A quick trip to the local audio/electronics store solved that. I picked up a pair of higher-end Panasonic ear buds that have much richer sound quality throughout the entire range. They molded into the compound without issue and sound great. Thanks for the link. Now I have to order the earbud helmet clamp...darn you anyway, Steve! :D

We've had the SMH10 set for a bit less than a half year & 10,000 miles in 3 helmets and usingboth clamp styles. They are currently in the 3rd week of a month long ride that has seen rain for nearly 2 weeks.

The functionality is great, once you have memorized. There are 2 buttons and for anything beyond basic intercom, they are not too clear aboutwhich to push and for how many seconds.

They work like champs as long as they are in sight of each other. Really like the big jog dial over using buttons for volume. It changes volume control from a task that you have to think about to something inuitive. When you re-gain sight, just pop thejog dial and the intercoms re-open.

The battery life is incredible and you can use the included charger on the Tenere while riding. Put back into standby mode when not talking and we did a 19 hour Iron Butt.

I use the ear bud clamp and bluetooth music from a Blackberry. I absolutely hate Blackberries but the setup does work and the Sena side of this has been great. (The BBY is required by work.)

The downside has been robustness - or lack of. We had one"egg" fail when the micro USB connector developed an open circuit and the unit would not charge. Thatone is goingback forwarranty.

The second failure has been withan earbud clamp. The earbuds plug into a connector that hangs lower than the bottom of the helmet. I am extremely careful to not smack or snag the connector, yet it has still broken where it goes into the clamp. I've now read about otherpeople having the same failure. I spoke with Sena about a replacement a week ago and was told that these are out of stock. For a basic part, my guess is that they have recognized the vulneravility.

You must have the older style, with the rigid connector for the earbuds.

THe newer style (I got mine last month) now have a flexible connector and no more issues with it snapping off.

I had some very expensive musician ear phones made and they were so sensitive, every time my jacket or helmet liner touched the earphone or cord, I could hear it in the speaker. Great sounds other wise and I use them when working with noisy equipment.
I never notice they are there.

Now for my question. Are these that comfortable? Also, Have you used foam ear plugs and do these block as much noise? Ear plugs are 30 or 32db.

I do have a problem with the foam and have to use Lidocain on the plugs after about 4hrs.
They do work nicely and I can still hear the speakers in my helmet. Not as good as earbuds.. ::025::

I want to use either the Sena or the Scalarider, not sure which one yet.

Is the music fed by bluetooth, or by wire.
Thanks

That "new" plug is a lot weaker than the old hard one. I've worn one out in less than 2 months....

Coincidently, I spoke with Sena this morning and learned about the redesign. No hassles or problems with taking care of their warranty work, so ::008::
