Sparrowhawks, thank you so much for going to the trouble to write up such a detailed response. I happen to have a friend with a Tenere and he has been begging me to change out his brake fluid :) This will be my best option with any hope of salvaging my lock. I will see if he can swing by this weekend and I will be sure to report back on my results. Nobody likes a novel without an ending!

Update: I had a two extra keys made this morning and got back in time time meet my buddy who had been bugging about bleeding his Tenere brakes. I checked out his lock function and tried one of the new keys. With the extra keys I was able to be a little more forceful and it didn't seem to make any difference, and a few times I couldn't remove the key and I thought it wasn't ever coming out. With another bike to compare I could see it wasn't going in far enough so I sprayed some silicone on the key a few times and then suddenly it dropped in a few more millimeters and presto, seat comes off :). It was that last wafer that wasn't letting the key slide in all the way and maybe the fresh key had something to do with it. I sprayed it again and it slides in and out like new. The reason the seat was loose is because the black plastic square frame that fits under the seat is missing. I'm not sure what that is for. Thank you everyone for walking me through this! The way the key was hanging up I really didn't think it would ever work again. This really saves me so much time for other things on this neglected bike. I did go ahead and bleed the brakes and clutch while I had everything out. Cheers!

Awesome to hear! The black plastic piece is the high/low position adjuster. With out it, you're just left with the one position and missing some filler in places where the plastic part had bumpers.

The seat bracket assembly is about $10 new. That plus the two grommets is what you need to replace it. The grommets are different for left and right and about $2 each. Same for all years. The 23P indicates First Gen part still used on 2nd Gen bikes. PartShark About $22 with shipping.

SEAT BRACKET ASSY - 23P-24708-00-00
GROMMET - 90480-13014-00
GROMMET - 90480-01559-00

Don't buy this one on Ebay $38!

Nice looking trailer. I been eyeballing one for a while. Let us know how it handles a S10 at hiway speed. I have a 18'x6' too big and a 10'x6'. That got permanently borrowed and tore up. You having a early Christmas I see.
