Hi,

After a lovely 1,600 mile tour my screen is filthy, I've cleaned off most of the mess but I want to give it a good polish, what do you use to polish your screen? I'm in the UK so it'll need to be something I can get over here! Thanks

Never use polish.
Just a soft cloth, soap and water.
You can apply insect repellent for easy future cleaning.

Good luck

+1 what Motty said. With the exception that I use RainX after the soap and water. I am currently using the Turtle Wax green car wash stuff to wash the entire bike. I let it sit on the shield for a little bit to soak into the bugs.

I put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll on my screen and spray with soapy water, let it soak and the mess just wipes off then. You can polish it with Pledge or similar plastic friendly household spray.

I have only used soapy water to clean my screen. Over the years I am guessing the salt and calcium chloride spray they put on the roads around here in winter have damaged it. It looks like someone has tie died white etchings in the thing. I have never had one do just that. Glad I don't have to look through it. May replace it one day.

Rinse off with warm soapy water (not wash-up, it contains too much salt) - this removes any grit/sand that will produce micro scratches if left alone. Then use the soapy soaked kitchen towels or j-cloth trick to soften up any bugs - after that just rinse away with a clean wet cloth. If the screen is really bad, say after a long tour/trip, then I remove the whole thing carefully & leave it to soak in a sink.

I tend not to polish the screen, but I do use a rinse product called 'Bobby Dazzler' ; originally I used this to leave a streak free finish on the windows of my camper vans years back, an idea introduced to me by a local funeral director.

Not the easiest to get but this is the best cleaner/polish IMHO.
Have been using it forever and a day.

My screen was very scratched from the previous owner, he must have dry cleaned it regularly. I removed it from the bike and polished it with some cutting compound on a wool polishing pad with a drill, followed by polishing compound on a fresh wheel. cleaned up everything but the really heavy defects.

I do not generally polish the screen. I use Plexus on my helmet visor and on rare occasions may use it on the screen while on the road, simply because it's in my tank bag.

For damaged, hazy, microscratched plastic I have used Mequiar's plastic cleaner and their polish with great success. I spent a dozen years running my own shop doing Miata only repair, service and upgrades and on the soft plastic convertible rear windows, Mequiar's was a consistent performer to restore clear viewing, even on heavily UV damaged plastic rear windows that were opaque. This is a newer combined cleaner/polish they sell: LINK

My process was to start with their #17 Plastic Cleaner, then finish with the #10 Mirror Glaze for a full restoration of badly damaged plastic. Truly amazing results. All done by hand with a clean, soft cloth, not with power tools.
