After a bout with cancer and chemo, I was left so weak I could barely roll the S10 out of the garage much less put it up on the center stand. So I started looking around at a lighter bike. I don't ride off road that much anymore, so the FJ-09 seemed like the perfect bike for a weak and aging 70 year old. I found a well farkled FJ-09 just 10 months off the show room floor and brought it home. Wonderful bike, great motor and tranny, liked the looks, but something just wasn't right.

I took me about 500 miles to finally figure it out. I just didn't feel safe on the bike and it was because it has only a 56 inch wheel base. No wonder it wheelies so easily, though I'm not a wheelie guy. Sold the bike, started lifting weights to get back in shape and the S10 is still my favorite ride.

However, I'm taking a French Alps tour in May and have opted for the Africa Twin, thinking if I like I'll buy. 62 inch wheel base and about a hundred pounds lighter. The chain thing doesn't scare me, I've lived with chains my whole life. However, this thread gives me pause. I've always thought the 900 triple would make a good ADV bike for me despite the torque thing and I think the T7 will surely be a short wheel base bike. So this news of a triple in an ADV format is good. I may have to hold off for a little while longer. I don't know how much longer I can hold off though with this cancer thing. Time will tell. Looking forward to Daytona next week. See you guys down there. I'll be the one in blue jeans, t-shirt, sunglasses and a big smile on my face. Racer
Good on you for getting back to health!
but I have to ask, what exaclty idid you find right with the FJ?
It's a short and light bike with a potent motor. I have two seasons on mine, and it never fails to wipe the smile off my face on pavement...

It's a light and fast sport tourer. The oem suspension sucks big time (IMO) Otherwise for road work, great bike.
Pushing the two around the garage is night and day. The AT will not be much lighter, but will slot in weight wise between the two Yammies.

Regarding the triple used as a motor of choice for an ADV bike...
maybe, but it's no where as grunty as the tenere twin, or the FZ07 twin. It makes power like a triple... ::015::

It's great power thought ::025::

Whatever, I got my popcorn out Yamaha.
Spoke to a rep at the bike show...
it went like this:
Me: When's the T7 coming
Rep: I don't know
Me: so it's coming?
Rep: I don't know
Me: You guys need this bike!
Rep: Yep

It's coming, or otherwise they wouldn't of put one for show at Ecma or what ever it's called. Yamaha will not do a big show like honda, they will simply bring it out.
I don't see the triple motor in an ADV chassis. That's a lot of dollars to be spent... unless they tweak the frame, and keep it chain driven.

I talked to a rep at the Toronto motocycle show.
Me: when do you think the T7 is coming?
Rep: it's out in Europe right now so we should have it by late summer early fall.
Me: you must be thinking of another bike.
Rep: NO it's been out in Europe for a few months now.
Me : we talking about the same bike?
Rep: like I said we will have it this year.
Me: pull out phone and showed him it was only a concept bike.
Rep: sorry I'm thinking of a different bike.

I mentioned the T7 to my brother the other day. He lives on 5 acres next door and was kind enough to build a nice barn that I now keep all my "stuff" in.

It went something like this.........

Me: Man, I hope Yamaha really does come out with this new bike that is like a smaller Tenere
(My brother doesn't know much about bikes but thinks my Tenere must be special since it gets parked in his barn with way more room between it and the next bike(s) on each side. It does stand there kind of majestically. ;) )

Brother: If they do, what you gonna do with your Tenere?

Me: Huh? What makes you think I'm going to do anything with it?

Brothers Wife: (oops. She heard me) "Latest and greatest, right? You just gotta have it, don' you?"

Me: (looking over at my brother with a oh crap she heard me look) This bike is different than anything I have ever had. It could be THE dream bike.

Brothers Wife: (spoken softly like she was talking to herself) Yea, when have we heard that before?

Brother: Honey, what ya cooking over there for supper?

Me: a silent thank you with my lips and a thumbs up that she couldn't see.

Come on Yamaha! Bring it! Preferably with the twin though. A Yamaha 700-750cc African Twin would be perfect! Tubeless please.

I'll have to park it over by my tinyhouse for a few weeks, it appears. :)

How are the weiners doing?

Regarding the T7, it will be the 700 twin, which is a peach.
Don't hold your breath on tubless rims. buy an Outex kit for $130 and problem solved!

The wieners are......um, I'm trying to remember which ones were alive when you were here. :)

I think we've lost 1 or 2 and replaced them both since then. One for sure. Cookie fought something in the woods that she lost to. Snickers got her spot in the pack.
(Those that are curious, I know it sounds cruel, but our wieners are allowed to live any way they choose. Some are warriors, others are fat lap dogs. The lazy ones do live much longer, I admit. But man the others have far more fun)

Pickles, Crackers, Cheetos, Cookie, Snickers....see a pattern? Weiner Dogs love to be named after snacks. The ones NOT named by me, thus things like Bella, or Beemer, are the ones that become porkers and watch TV with the ladies. Pathetic really.

So, you don't think there's a good chance Yamaha will build tubeless spoke rims for the T7?

weiner warriors ::025::

I think they will be tubed. It's much easier for them to pull an excel rim or similar off the shelf, that they might be using on the wr450, put a different hub on it, and presto...
Hell...they may even use the same hub (if single disk), but I'm guessing the front brakes will be in the current century, and likely be radial
