Today my wife , son and I went on a ride over to our daughters home. She lives 40 miles away but we decided to ride as much back roads and ATV track as we could find on our way to her place. My son Eric rides all over this part of the woods so he knows a lot of trails. First up on our way was an abondon railroad bed. It goes right past Tom Arnolds and Roseanne Barrs old mansion. They where married from 1990 to 1994 and started building a huge house out in the woods. They just abondon it when they got a divorce. We went to school with Tom and my wife was in his class.

The mansion overlooks a beautful lake , They should turn this place into a st. park.

Then we went past a big wash out on the rail bed, it won't be long and this trail won't be ridable.

When I was young my parents would take us to a place called Cliffland rocks to cookout and climb on the cliffs, We road past all that and way back in there Michelle spotted a face carved into the rock.

Some back roads over to Lake Arrowhead and ATV trails.

These old train tunnels were the last trail we road before going on out to our daughters . It took 73 miles to get to her home 40 miles away.

Thanks for reading.

Good on you. Looks like a great day. I would almost have rather been doing that than chipping ice. R

I grew up in Oskaloosa...just up the road.
I know that area well - very well.
My friend (Charlie Porter, deceased & his father, John Porter) at Hawkeye Lumber supplied all the building materials for the famous house.
I visited it many times in its construction days.

Thanks for the memories

Cool! My mom is from Mapleton. Tornado town, of late. Lots of hogs and corn in Western IA, plus some competitive short track, dirt oval stuff going on. One of the last places on planet earth for good pheasant hunting, too.

The good roads are hidden all right,,, They are in Missouri, Actulally there is some good roads in North east Iowa ,all along the Mississsippi and in Van Buren county. Don't waist your time coming here to ride,We go to Missouri for the good stuff.

I really like the North Ar area. I try to ride there as much a possible. It would be nice if we could meet for a ride after we get our bikes.. :)

I like both North Arkansas and southern MO. My son and I did over 2000 miles of those roads over a week last Sept and really had a blast. I have explored many MO roads over the last 15+ years, as I used to put on a HSTA ride there and know some very lightly travelled rural MO roads that are as good as any I have ridden anywhere in the USA. I can't wait to ride them with the Super Ten.

Fred, japako, hannabne We really need to meet down there for a ride, we could even get some kind of a "ride in" going here. I,m not a good organizer [all I want to do is ride] so if one of you guys want to set a fall date and place I'll sure try to be there. There is a biker friendly restaurant in Bixby that a lot of bikers meet at. We go down there and do a " letter" road ride and have a blast. Camp on the banks of the Current or the Black Wow forget fall us go now!!! Oh we don't have our bikes yet, sorry.

That sounds great. Let's get the bikes here first and then we can plan some rides. BTW, Bixby is right in the heart of my famous Friends of Freddie HSTA event routes. I usually mapped out a 300-350 mile loop for that event. That highway 32 going into Bixby is great, especially if ridden after riding P and DD from Potosi. DD is one of the most fun roads anywhere. Another of my favorites is 34 near Piedmont, which is incredible.

Have you ridden "K" out of Summersville, The road is just OK but at the Current river there is a fairy crossing with no one around. So you push a button on a pole and about 5 min. latter a guy walks down the hill and comes over to get you. It's like right out of "Josey Wales"

Yes, I have. Rode it with my wife back when we had a ST1100 and a few years ago on my KLR. I have a pic of the time I rode it with my wife.

Rod It would be like a major Honor for you to show up from Loveland,Co. to a ride we put on in southern Mo. Like we would need to get you some kind of trophy or cigar.

We got out for a little ride today and I thought I would just add it to this post since it’s in the same area as the ride we took a couple weeks ago. This ride took us past the old Chief Black Hawk murder sight. Black Hawk was a great war Chief of the Sauk Indians and lead them in the war of 1812. After his warring days he ran a little store in the bottom of this building he lived in along the Des Moines River near Iowaville. Two thugs came up the river and murdered the Chief . They cut off his head and sold it and it went around the country on display for a while. He was buried in this sight then latter the Sauk Indians moved him to Wisconsin where he was from. This is not the story Wikipedia tells but this version was in our paper and is widely believed in south east Iowa.
