I have just fitted my new Sargent seat for my S10.
My first observation is that it is rock hard and nothing like the one I had on my BM GS, I have used the bike today for work which is approx. 16 miles and I found myself continually moving about trying to get comfortable.
Thinking about sending it back, anyone elase had one of these, what do you think, does it get better with use?

I have a long trip this weekend and don't want to end up hating it because of this seat, I may put the stock seat back on... :'(

Sorry cant help with a direct experience on the S10 Sargent seat but I think firm is better than soft as it can only improve as it breaks in. Start soft and it may feel like your sitting on the seat pan when it softens up. My last sargent seat was on my old 999 and on that I only wished i'd fitted sooner as the stock was so soft to be non existant. My stock S10 seat give me butt ache before the tank range expires which is a bit of a pain though it could also mean my butt isn't long distance fit at the moment. So maybe your Glutes are in need of a work out as well as some saddle miles to get it sunk in .

I have one of their very first seats. After almost 7k miles it is as hard as a rock still. Many other people complained about this and sent their seats back. I was under the impression Sargent correct the problem and started using a softer foam. I should really send mine in before riding to Colorado.

Their paperwork says that there is no 'running' in for the seat so I don't expect it to soften, guess I'll have to send it back...
I have spent ages waiting for this to arrive and after also trying a Corbin seat, which didn't even fit the bike, I am starting to get frustrated, I also had the stock seat modded but that was no different so another e waste of time and money...
My GS seat had a label underneath which said 'Atomic Foam', this seat doesn't have that so they must be using different stuff.

I got one for my S10, and also thought it was too hard. This is my 4th Sargent seat, and I was very disappointed because the other three were excellent. I called them up and eventually talked to one of the owners of Sargent. I ended up sending mine back for a re-foam for $90. ( :() The modifications consist of adding another 1/2" of softer foam, and softening the edge where the seat transitions from the flat part to the sides.

I have not gotten it back to try it. I hope it is as good as my KLR seat, because that was great. The owner tried to make excuses that the shape of the stock seat pan, which they copied more or less, did not lend itself to having enough foam thickness, so they went harder with the foam. Having another 1/2" of foam will make the seat taller, so I might have to mount it in the lower position. Sorry for your experience. I wish I had mine back and could tell you the modifications were a success, but, alas, it is not here yet.

Being in the UK makes sending it back for mod's pretty expensive and time consuming, and annoying so I would rather return it and get a local company to make me a seat from scratch.

I have the Saddlemen Adventure Track seat. It is noticably firmer than stock, but he mixture of foam and gel seems to do a good job of supporting without torturing your glutes. I must qualify the preceeding info because these are only initial impressions 30 minute rides to work. I still need to log a long ride or two to thoroughly evaluate the seat.

I've got about 600 miles on my Saddlemen AT. I think it's a keeper. Most of those miles were done in 125-200 mile stints. The seat was a bit hard to begin with, but my butt an it seem to be getting along better as time goes by.

I just put another 6000 miles on my Sargent and it is still as hard as the day I got it. I'm not sure if its a bad thing tho. Honestly my ass has never been sore.

My first Sargent was also too hard and when they came out with the second generation, I sent it back to redo. In discussing this with the folks involved, we discussed adding the extra 1/2 inch of softer foam over the original foam instead of changing to the newer foam. At least that is how I understood what they were telling me. That has worked out for me and I am very satisfied with it.

I also mentioned to the seat builder that the Sargent I had on my 08 KLR was the most comfortable seat I ever had. As was posted above, he had a reason that even with the improved foam, it wouldn't be as supple as the KLR seat due to something about the S10 seat pan shape. I'm not sure I understand all I know about seat building, but will have to believe the guy who actually built mine. In any case, I am happy with what I ended up with.

As far as I know, I have a second generation Sargent for the Tenere although I never had a first generation to compare it to. It's hard but not as hard as the Sargent I had on my FJR. The hardness never gets painful like the FJR seat could and I think it will probably get more comfortable over time. I like the roominess with ability to move around fore and aft and side to side. It's a little slippery with my Kevlar pants and I'd like a little more grip.

I have a Sargent seat on my '09 KLR650 and it's probably the most comfortable seat I've ever had on a motorcycle. I bought the 2nd generation Sargent seat for my S10, and really wanted to like it, but it was painfully hard and I ended up returning it for a refund. I then bought a used Russell Day Long from another member of this website, and it's waaayyyy better than the Sargent (IMHO-YMMV).

When I bought my bike it had a Sargent seat on it from the pervious owner. A gen 1 I think. That seat actaully hurt. I've had seat that get uncomfortable, but that one hurt because it was so hard. Lucky for me, he was nice enough to trade it out for a BMS saddle he also had. I will probably never try a Sargent on any bike now.

My Sargent on my VFR was outstanding. They make a great product, but I think they really screwed up the tenere seat. I personally think they tried to make up for a super flimsy seat pan with a hard foam. My Corbin is much more comfortable and I'm considering putting it back on or finding a nice gel pad for the Sargent.

I just got my custom re-shaped Sargent seat, and it very much resembles the seat shape of the Sargent KLR seat that I loved. Notice that the sharp edges have been rounded, and it has another 1/2" of super cell foam on top. I tried it out for a brief moment, because the cover was wrong. It was stitched with their welt / piping, which I did not want. No biggie - free fix to get it right.

I talked to Mark, one of the owners of Sargent, and told him I liked the shape and feel much better. He told me that they were discussing making an optional seat very much like mine, as a slightly higher cost option. The main thing he was encountering with orders is that people were not wanting the seat to be too high, which is why Sargent started making the seats so thin in the first place.

Hope this helps.

My goal is a 500 mile a day seat. I bought the original Tenere Sargent seat and after a 300 ride I sent it back and told them how to fix it. When they came out with the second version I thought that they had fixed the problem. After another 300 mile ride I sent it back also and told them how to fix it again (it was hard as a rock). They wanted to charge me $90 plus and with modifications I would not be able to return it if it wasn't right. So I sent that one back also. I tried a Saddlemans seat also, same problem. I found out about a company called Seat Concepts in CA. I called the owner and talked to him. Unlike Sargent who uses a machine mixed foam, they hand mix it the foam, which means you can get it just the way you want it and for less than half what Sargent charges. Bottom line the Seat Concepts seat is damn near perfect. I wish I had found them in the first place.

I had pre-ordered the Sargent seat and received it last October. First, I'd like to thank Sargent for having great customer service; they extended my trial period so I could see if i could get used to the seat. Unfortunately, my issue was more with the slope of the seat than the firmness. I was constantly sliding forward under braking and having to brace myself against the bars. The seat material was very slippery as well. I ultimately sent it back and just used my Airhawk pad for a 1200 mile round trip to Eureka Springs, ARK. (snowed on us the first night there!) The Sargent looked great with blue piping etc. but it was too expensive not to totally love it. I have a seats concept on my WR250 R and really like that one. May install their ST version (just wish it looked as good as the Sargent!)

I actually liked the firmness but then I never had a long ride on the Sargent before sending back.

My experience with Sargent seats was hard. Hard ass foam but better shape then the stock FZ1 seat. That being said the overall concept of Sargent seems to be hard foam but good shape. I wish they would put some less hard foam on the seat because they shaped it well. I had a similar experience with Corbin. Overall good made product but feel free to place a little padding under my ass please. The stock S10 seat is very good. Sargent could have better padding on the S10 but I don't know. Never rode one. Overall after market seat makers seem to make a hard ass seats. A little to hard but willing to accept it for the better shape. Add some extra padding and they could be really good.
