Typical car parts store price and more than at big flea markets and car shows. There are different amperage ratings, so watch the wire gage of what you buy. Generally, they are supposed to be 15A, which is fine for a battery tender or compressor.

Not sure by what you mean by "drop in a bigger fuse for the air compressor." The OEM fuse block has a 20A fuse for options (it's the bottom one in the front block). I know of one FJR owner who destroyed his wiring for the cigarette lighter and for the adjacent wires after replacing the 3A fuse with a 20A.

Yes, the wire gauge is what's critical. 14AWG should give you a healthy margin of safety for a compressor. I was surprised to find that the accessory plug wiring is so wimpy, but I suppose it's reasonable if you're only running a GPS and a few other electronic items...still, the socket is fairly close to the battery so I'm not sure why they chose not to build a more beefy setup. Things like heated gear will have to be wired separately.

+1

What amperage does your compressor draw? (watts divided by voltage) 14 Gauge wire will handle 15 Amps. It's all about the math.

Trust, but verify...... It's your bike, not ours

Need to attach a SAE plug to my battery for an aircompressor/charger/etc.

Found this for only $4.20 (free shipping for those with a Prime account), http://www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-081-0069-6-Terminal-Disconnect/dp/B000NCOKZQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1315556930&sr=8-1, just need to drop in a bigger fuse for the compressor.

If anyone has a recommendation for something better, don't be shy...
I have been using that on all my bikes. You will need to change the battery connectors to smaller ones and it is good to go.
I routed mine out the bottom rear side of the rt cover and hid it in the loom of wires..

That looks like the standard length SAE plug that comes with a Battery Tender unit. That is a good piece and is made of heavy gauge wires. When I purchased a portable air compressor from Aerostich, it came with an SAE plug connector. The wiring was much smaller and seemed cheaper that the Battery Tender brand of SAE plug. That Battery Tender should have no issues supplying power and charging batteries.

The only issue I had with that plug was the length. I wanted to route the plug to my left handlebar area (same as my other bikes). I had to purchase a 48" Powerlet brand plug to span the distance. It was too long, but the next available size, 24" would have been too short. The Powerlet and the Battery Tender are of comparable quality and make. The only way to tell the two apart is the Powerlet has a "P" molded into the plastic.
