Saddlebag liner?

Just wondering what everyone uses to line their metal saddle bags to keep the clanking and rattling to a minimum? On my V Strom, I lined the top box with heavy duty felt applied with 3M spray glue. They protect the helmet, kept other things in the box from rattling around, and the felt liner never peeled or wore off.

I think it's way simpler to pack all your stuff into a soft sided bag and put that inside your hard pannier, rather than padding the pannier itself. If you really want it quiet, you can put compression straps around the bag to keep everything tight. I've been using these inside my Pelican knockoff cases for several years now, and they work great.

The problem with lining your cases with anything absorbent like felt is, if they ever get wet, they'll take a long time to dry; in a humid climate like we have in NC, that means mold and mildew.

The bags I bought are listed as "Travel Bag Lightweight Duffel Gym Bag Waterproof Foldable Portable Luggage Bag Men Women (32L, Blue) " on Amazon. They're not bad for nine bucks.

Yes, I made a point to make sure that felt never got wet. In some instances during a rainstorm, just quickly opening and closing the case to store my helmet, I got water inside which took a few days to dry out.

Of course I wouldn't apply it with the bags on the bike. But it should be durable, and I know that Duplicolor is available in black, tan, olive, and clear.
