Uni-Filter NU-6235 Kit Dual Stage Air Filters: This is the S10 oem fitment in Australia & not sold by Uni-Filter USA. 2WheelDynoWorks recommends an ecu flash or corrected fueling & provides similar improvement as the Arrow header, the S10 responds well to improved air velocity, particularly at low rpm making slow speed fueling buttery smooth.

Cool It Thermo Tec Adhesive Backed Aluminized Heat Barrier #13575 Wrapped Air Box: can't confirm any improvement, but the theory makes sense.

The filters in my Australlian 2015 model is similar but different not crinkle cut but normal foam with internal spring to keep the shape, zip tied on. Use Castrol foam filter spray seems to do a good job. Intakes and throttle bodies nice and clean.

My only concern with this setup is how long does the foam filter oil really keep it's stickiness?

I have used No-toil and Maxima FFT on foam filters for years and the stickiness always seems to fade overtime.

If the air filter was easier to get to on the S-10, I wouldn't mind re-oiling the filter each year but with this setup, I am going to stick with the OEM paper filter.

Uni-Filter revised them from the previous red colour round design still with internal springs..mine are the latest design

You're correct...it does fade over time..I re-oil/clean once each riding season (may - oct), unless riding a lot of dusty off-road, then more often...Getting to the airbox has gotten easier & faster, so not as daunting as the 1st time..the 2 stages of foam do dry some what but still have some oil left, particularly the inner denser one....I use Uni's oil which remains tacky fairly long. The benefits of increased air velocity outway the inconvenience of the cleaning/re-oiling procedure for me. No doubt that the oem provides the best filtration...at the expense of restrictive air flow...which gets more restrictive the dirtier it gets...no perfect scenario :)

Changing out the allen head tank screw on the radiator side to a bolt makes it easier. Altrider crash bars makes it a little challenging.

I also have Altriders. To get to the rad side allen bolt I just take out the two lower fasteners (where my knee is) the one on top and the one by the turn indicator. That gives enough flex in the side panel for my large, size 13 hand to get an allen wrench in to slacken of the bolt, then it will turn easely with my fingers.
For me the worst part is undoing the 3 airbox screws at the tank hinge.

Makes you wonder what Yamaha was thinking making an adventure bike with such a difficult air filter and spark plug access. that should be a 10 minute process on a bike like this. I am sure they figured most would use them like i do and not use it for a mud hole depth gauge in south america.

I use the Castrol foam air filter spray, it held on well, but you expect it to dry out as it reacts with dust and grime. The dustier the conditions the faster it dries, naturally. If you are planning to spend a lot of time in dusty conditions use the pleated paper much better filtration and easy to clean. Air boxes and down draft throttle bodies are always difficult with a 24lt fuel tank, room is always a premium.

You can get 100k miles out of good spark plugs. Air filters rarely clog to the point where the bike is disabled, it just becomes less efficient.

It's not that big a deal. It's mostly just an annoyance.

Check the foam UNI every six months or so. I’ve had the UNI filters for years and work fantastic with my other mods.
I’ve had to replace my UNI filters once only because the material had deteriorated. I checked the filters before a big trip, they were basically 95% clean, but the foam would just fall off in my fingers.
Just because of heat and time. So check them pretty ‘often’. I only used UNI cleaner and oil.
Of course, I installed another set !!

I know the drill ,Air in and out of the engine but keep in mind to change the oil sooner It will get dirty quicker. The Monto Carlo club sends there oil out to be tested and the lab tells them to do a oil change its dirty, the one guy tells them he did it not long ago, come to find out he put a K&N air filter on and as its designed to let more air in it also lets dirt in . Play ya Pay...

Bringing back an old thread from the dead :D . Is anyone still running the Uni filters on their ST? I can only find one source, and they are $90 for the kit.
