Well I took the plunge about 4 weeks ago. I really wanted my next bike to be the T7. The dealers around me already have deposits on them. I suspected they were not going to deal on them as the demand appears high and the demand for my 2012 S10 with 50K miles is pretty low. I as a habit do not buy new bikes. I usually buy 2-3 year old bikes for a bargain. And this is a 3 year old NEW bike. The offer I got from this high volume Honda dealer was too good to pass up. My 2012 and a check for $3500 and I left with a New 2017 AT with a factory centerstand. The standard model does not come stock with a centerstand. I am rapidly closing in on retirement and the S10 is just getting too heavy for me. In a few years when I replace the AT there will be plenty of used T7 around by then. Also there are rumors of a Honda 750 Adventure bike. I have a few friends on AT"s and have switched bikes while on rides. The Tenere is clearly the asphalt winner and the AT the off road in direct comparisons for me anyways. Too much snow on the ground to get any riding in. Got some mods to do. Bags, engine guards, tubless conversion with Mitas E07 tires and I think I am set. Oh and I still ride BLUE! I have a 2017 YZ250FX in the garage.

Right on and happy for you. Do keep in mind that the AT is still a very heavy bike. It is well over 500lbs wet.

Congratulations ! No Africa Twins when I bought my first Tenere or chances are pretty Good that’s what I would be riding today, I would definitely choose the DCT.

Here is a couple pics of the new cream puff. Oh yeah I also need to put a high fender kit on the front. We get some mud here that locks up the front wheel. The Yamaha in the background is what I ride when I wanna hang it out! I race a couple OMA nationals, local harescramble series and some MX here on it. 9E3D562E-432F-45B6-897B-798CC137B984.jpegE9C9CC0C-A3C7-4DA5-82AF-A32598FD8437.jpeg9E3D562E-432F-45B6-897B-798CC137B984.jpeg

HAHA! I deserve that. those tool boxes look terrible. I lack organization obviously. Funny thing is my actual tool box is to the right of those two red mounds of debris. I needed this nudging and am now motivated to clean it up.

I rode my Africa Twin for two seasons 30,000km and loved it. I traded the AT for a 2018 Tenere ES, great for highway riding and comfort, but gravel, and city riding give me an At. Both are great bikes but choose a bike that will best fit your type of riding.

Yes I could not be happier with the deal. My only regret is not going with a 2019 ATAS model for $1200 more. They still had 9 more 17s left from a total of 25 they received. They were selling at $9299. New 2019 ATAS for 10,499. I think maybe Honda overproduced and had a warehouse full of new 3 year old bikes. Not sure but I think even before all the virus BS I would have been lucky to get $5000 for my Tenere. If you do a national search you can find a few new 2017 ATs for $8999. For the money it is hard to beat! I have only been able to put 900 miles on the AT but I must say I really
like it.

2000 mile review....Just thought I would follow up. First off this Tenere website is superior to any Africa Twin website I have found. And there are MANY! The format, the content, the knowledge of members top notch. Probably why I keep coming back. I will start with the areas I believe the S10 better. For me anyways. The Tenere is a far better 2up bike. More torque, Bigger and roomier plus the suspension handles excess weight better. Much better interstate bike. In fairness though...I had my Tenere well set up for traveling. Bar risers, Air Hawk on the seat, Madstad bracket and touring windshield. All day in the saddle no problem with fatigue. 80 MPH flowing with traffic was very comfortable. Now onto the AT...
Honda went low budget on the suspension. It is too soft for 2up riding. I don't ride 2up on this bike so not a big issue for me. Even still the Kayabas on the S10 are better than the stock Showas on the AT. Standard AT which I have only has a 5 gallon gas tank. I was hoping for 50MPG but so far only 45MPG. Stock windscreen is okay but will need larger screen for cold weather or long interstate days. Power to weight ratio is very comparable. The AT has plenty of power. Acceleration is fine and even the smaller motor has enough for most even loaded. The Dunlop road tires that come stock are Terrible off road. The AT has the traction control adjustable on the fly which is nice. The ABS brakes can be shut off with the dash switch. I like that as well. When the road turns to dirt I think is where the AT is better. Lighter and more flickable. The AT is as much better off road. The S10 is better on road. My humble opinion anyways. Been riding 52 years and have owned over 60 bikes. I think they are both great bikes.

Do yourself a favor and re-spring your AT. It's a very cheap way to improve the ride. I am amazed yet puzzled as to why the ST is so well sprung from the factory. The sag numbers show it should handle like crap, yet the OEM springs are just fine for my 200+lb weight. Thank you for your review Sir. Glad you are liking your bike.

1000% agree. Even though I sold my S10 4 years ago, I lurk around this site cuz there are a lotta good folks here, and a lot of interesting threads going on. Too bad most forums are not even close to this one~!!!!!!!!!
