Looking at possible options for crash bars. I see some have the yammi crash bar on there, which looks solid. But what about Metal Mule's crash bars? The do not connect (left to right) as the yammi ones, but cover the side panels.....

what would you do...what, would you do?

Hi, nice to know there is an alternative to the standard bars. I would like to see a pic of Metal Mule's crash bars. Especially interested in how much protection it provides for the side covers and therefore for the radiator and fan. Perhaps you can post a link, please?

SW-Motech has some that will actually give protection outside where the radiator and fan is located. That is an area that will need some protection especially off road I'm thinking.

DOH! I got a lil confused...anyways, currently metal mule does not have crash bars for the s10...though it does have them for the 660.

Do believe I was thinking of SW-Motech.....but same question nevertheless....other than for aux lights, is that cross piece necessary?

Post number 1367...anyone tell which bars these are? They protect the side and have the cross linkage up by the headlights.

On page 70 of that thread, the owner said he had them made up just for him so not an orderable item. They look good as long as their mounting spots are good.

I wonder how ALT Rider will make some? They have a bike on order from Eastside powersports in Bellevue, WA and will get a bike when the rest of us do. From what I have heard ALT Rider is PRETTY DAMN EXPENSIVE on their bars and skid plates. They wouldn't even discount an order for my buddy who was going to let them use his bike for a mock up. They only knocked a few dollars off of their set-up, still being close to $500 for a skidplate and crash bars for a DL650 VeeStrom.

asp from the AVDrider forum is cooking something up that sounds like a combination of the Yamaha lower section with an upper like SW Motech. I have been looking at e stuff he has fabled for Ducatis and it is top-notch. I think it will be worth watching to see how it develops.

I don't think they give enough protection for the side panels. The ground isn't always flat where you fall over.

Thoughts on H&B??

I like these. Seem to be very compact compared to the comp. Like tha aux light mounts. Probably can't afford them !

I like the Yami bars but there is not enough protection to the upper plastic. If Yami and SW-Motech could get together and combined the 2 bars together they would be perfect for the bike. You would have a light mount on top and if you wanted pegs to strestch your legs on long rides you would be able to have that also. Not to forget the protection for when you take her off road.

overall choices I am looking at are SW Motech and AltRider bars to cover the top fairings. I would like to see what the GIVI bars will end up looking like.

I'm going to hold off and see what the major players come up with. I'd prefer to stay with the same manufacturer for both items from the standpoint of design integration. If the stuff is top of the line, I'll have no problem pulling it off and selling it as a used item on E-bay or a forum or whatever, if I can't get a decent price for my fully optioned bike on resale. Some gear (side and top cases, PIAA lights, etc.), can be transferred from bike to bike.

I ride a V Strom right now, but it's a very nice V Strom. :)
