I need some help. My 2016 t stat is sticking allowing the engine to run hotter than I like. My dealer tells me there isn't one in the US dealer network and backordered until the end of October. Any ideas where one may be laying on a shelf?

I see you live in FL. Just remove it for now until the new one arrives.

What Chris said. It will take longer to warm up, but in your climate that shouldn't be an issue at this time of year. You could also take the thermostat you pull out to an auto parts store and see if they can match it up with a comparable one. If you can find the right temp range, size should be less of an issue. Worst case, get a larger size flange and trim it to fit. I don't recall off hand what style gasket it uses. Parts diagram shows no gasket or part number for one.

Yamaha part number is: 23P-12410-00-00 for reference.

Says 'thermostat assembly', prolly has the rubber gasket already around the edge. Partfish says 9/17 for availability.

I thought the same thing, late model bike with this issue. But these stats are mass produced like so many things and it's not outside the bounds of reason for a few to go bad. So I followed the FSM procedure for testing and just as the bike demonstrated, it would open slightly on one test, open fully on another test and just barely open on yet another test and so on.
Thanks for all the tips and possible outlets for the part, I'm going to run those leads down first thing today.

How hot has it been running ?
It was running at 170 down the interstate which was great of course but when I started down some back roads the temperature started to climb into the 180's then 190's, back down to the 180's and it kept up that scenario for a while. What concerned me was when I began stopping in traffic and the fan would come on (215-220 on my bike), which is normal but then it never cooled off when moving again, staying in the high 190's to 200 range. The further I rode the less and less the bike was cooling off. So I checked the radiator inlet for a goose or some other obstruction :) but it was clear as was the radiator core. So I narrowed it down to a sensor or t stat. I can test the t stat not so much the sensor.

Where is Indiana Jones when you need him? From the Netherlands...

Unfortunately we don’t have this part in our own stock, we also checked the availibility at the manufacturer.

We can see that the part is available, but will go in backorder, because there is no stock in Europe and the part now needs to come from Japan.
Normally it will take about 2 to 3 weeks until the part arrives in our warehouse.

You might spend some time looking at this list after measuring the stock thermostat. This is not really all that specific to motorcycles or Yamaha, it's just a thermostat. Find the flange diameter and depth that match, avoid the exotic designs. Let us know if you find an alternative that fits and works.

In hot weather that all sounds pretty normal for a Tenere .

How my bike heats up and cools down is not always consistent. If my bike got above 220F and wasn't showing any signs of cooling with the fan on, then I might be concerned. I would definitely test the thermostat by putting it in boiling water. There has got to be a thermostat from another bike that will fit? Yes, might need to be trimmed as EricV said around the flange. What about a R1 or FJR thermostat? (Our bike seems to share a few parts in common with these.)
This is making me want to get preemptive and order one in case I ever need one!

My last trip riding two up in 100+ temps my bike would run anywhere between 195 and 217. Pulling hills I could watch the temp rise from 195 to usually 212. I was going 80+ mph.

I would be concerned if it got over 220 for extended periods of time but it never does.

I understand that each bike, in it's own environment with a rider who has his or her own traits can run differently than mine. I am making assessments from what was "normal" for my bike. In my area of Florida, in the middle of summer my S10 would casually run at about 180. I guess there is some variation with the calibration or performance of each temperature sensor as well. It is possible that those bikes that run much hotter than that may have different sensor performance or perhaps are experiencing the same effects as mine but to a different degree.

This temperature topic comes up quite often.
The whole Yamaha gauge cluster on the Tenere is a sort of messed up deal in my opinion on both generations.
At first I worried about the high temperature readings when riding in hot weather but after finding out everyone else was seeing about the same thing I quit worrying and haven’t had any heat related problems in over 63,000 miles.
