WE HAVE A DATE! May 19-20. Details to come.

The guys at Romney Cycles in Romney, WV, have been talking for a while about sponsoring an ADV-style weekend based out of the store, some time in spring 2012. They have quite a few happy Super Tenere customers, but want to get to know us (and the market segment) better. Their main experience is with the cruiser and sportbike market (and ATV's) but they are pretty smart and seeing ADV bike as a growth market ::024::

So Larry, the manager, is saying pretty much it can be whatever we want - we just have to tell him.

Obviously there can be a series of routes mapped out - some more dirt than others! We all know that WV has some great riding - I never get tired of it... Some of us locals I'm sure will volunteer to figure out those routes in advance. We can camp at the store - they have a large parking area as well as grassed area for setting up tents. Larry will work out a group rate at a local motel for those who want to do that. The bathrooms inside the store would be accessible to us, but they would also provide portable toilets and showers in the car park. Drinks and food for the saturday night would also be on the agenda...

The store is huge with a lounge area where there could be presentations or videos etc.

So - what do you want, when do you want to do it? Add your suggestions to this thread!

I'm game for this. I've never been down that way, it should be fun.

I guess the first thing to be worked out is the timing. The temperatures don't get decent for camping until June. How's early June sound?

Hey Trevor,
Count me in. I'm definitely up for some WV dirt. Camping at the dealer would be perfect not to mention cheap. Let me know the dates.

As one of the happy Romney customers, I'll be there. It's a great dealership, with an excellent attitude. With so many great roads around the area the biggest frustration will be picking which one or two rides to do during the event.

I don't have a big preference on a particular date. I know Larry wanted to open this to the broad Adventure community so we may want to skip the weekend of May 19th which is the same weekend as the Strom gathering at Iron Horse. That could have an impact on attendance.

I'll probably camp, which would make it my second camping trip in the last 25 years. I know the area pretty well and will be happy to assist with developing route options for people/groups to ride.

Successful gatherings I have attended usually have a common place for everyone to eat and mingle about while discussing the day's ride or the plans for tomorrow's ride. A place to sit down in whatever sized groups to spread out maps, eat, or just put down your beer is always welcomed.

Looking forward to it, whenever it happens.

Fantastic and I'd probably be a camper, provided I'm in town. I'd be willing to kick in some good roads for the area, too. Most folks go south, but there are some fun rides toward Deep Creek Lake to the north.

Sounds like fun.

Good point Jon - and perhaps I should mention this on the Strom forums too... The more people that come the better.

I'm in towards end of May or after.

I spend some time riding/camping in that area about every year. Good riding in all directions. Have a couple of adventure touring friends that live in the immediate area and know the riding more than well.

Trevor, suggest to Larry that he consider getting out on a bike with us. He's bound to have access to a suitable mount.

Thanks to Larry and you for pursuing this. If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know.

Thanks for the responses so far - I suggested the weekend of June 2 to Larry (since that works for me ::025::) and he'll get back to confirm.

Anybody have a good reason it shouldn't be that weekend?

If Larry wants a big event I would think putting it on ADV as well as Stromtrooper would help up the numbers once the date gets nailed down. June 2 sounds good.

Are all the events spaced apart?

Whitehorse is 6/30 to 7/5. What about Texas?

Ok I think we have a date - and I know it clashes with some other events, but that's the way it goes... How does May 19/20 sound?
