Remove factory "plastic guards" when installing GIVI crash bar?

Hey there,

My bike was fitted from the dealer with a GIVI TN 355 crash bar

The dealer removed and gave me both the factory "plastic guard inserts" that come on both sides, where the GIVI crash bars are installed

I looked at the installation guide from GIVI and it says that you should only remove the right side plastic guard....not the left one (the radiator side)

I talked to a friend who owns a ST and he told me that the LEFT one (radiator side) should NOT be removed because it also has a purpose of holding the radiator in place and that removing it will cause the radiator support to vibrate and become damaged over time

Is that true? Should I fit that plastic piece back in its place ?

Uh. . . . I don't think you can fit any bars without removing the OE guards. I'm running Mastechs, and I know they wouldn't fit if I left the OEs on there. I have to hope the dealer is good enough not to steer you wrong. Here's mine.

SW-Motech crash bar here and I had to remove both plastic guard. The crash bar as a metal tang to hold the radiator.

Totally agree with gv550

I have Givi crash bars on mine and they attach to the same mounting brackets on the frame.

Looking carefully at my S10 I think the Givi bars would also hold the radiator in place

46k and no problems

Do he genuine Yamaha crash bars require the left plastic guard to be removed?

Mistery solved!

I went underneath my bike and took a good look at the crash bar and the radiator itself....this is it

The Crash Bar does come prepared to support the radiator! So.....you can and MUST remove the OEM protector

Thats it...
