I've never done this yet but one thing I never use a spring puller. What I do is get a bunch of fender washers and with the center stand in the extended position jam the washers between the spring coils. Then when you retract the center stand the washers keep the spring elongated and the spring can come off by hand. No busted knuckles.

I have mine off when the trailer hitch is on the bike (usually) and removal will work fine that way. I've also done the washer trick and it worked but took a LOT of washers.

:)Fantastic tip!! Never thought of that. Now I can remove my stands at next service to properly lube them.

Just saw a spring puller being used in a video. Hook one spring at a time, took a bit f effort, no big deal. I use a brake spring tool.

My sidestand spring only takes 4 washers to remove by hand. I'll know soon enough on the centerstand. Getting near the time to powdercoat lots of bits and pieces that are rusting. The salt spray from the ocean really attacks.

Another trick is to use paracord - put a loop on the spring hook and secure the free end to a spoke on the back wheel, or around the tire itself. Turning the back wheel by hand creates a LOT of controlled leverage on the cord.
Hey, that's a cool use of a 'Machine'.
