I am just wondering if it is normal for a Tenere 1200 which runs normally at 75 Degrees, when in traffic or standing at lights the temperature shoots up in such a way that you can see the digits on the display climbing up to 104 Degrees before the fan cuts in and takes it back down to 94, is this normal.

That is normal. Radiator fans in cars and bikes come on at a set temp, I do not know what it is for the super t seeing that I have only owned mine for less then a week, but my cbr was 121'F.

My normal running temp is 167. Fan comes on (like a siren) at 221 and off at 212

The bike has a minimal radiator. It is also more "enclosed" than bikes with them in front of the engine so their radiating takes a little more moving air than bikes with "exposed" radiators. For these two reasons it doesn't take long if you are moving slowly, or stopped, for the temperature to ramp up quickly and for the fan to cycle. No worries though, the fan keeps the temp below boiling. It sure can get annoying though.

I was touring spain with a mate . We were returning to the ferry at Santander , my mate was leading and forgot to take ....SHORTEST ROUTE...off his sat nav ? It took us straight through the city centre in a 38 degree rush hour . The fan on my tenere was on nearly all the time it was red hot . We hit a small two lane carriageway I gave it a quick 80mph thrash down it and temperature dropped straight back to normal within a few hundred yards , so they do cool down as quick as they heat up ....

I too was surprised at how quickly, and how often, the coolant temp rose and fans came on when I first got the bike. I inquired her and, apparently, it's common amongst Tenere owners. Considering the side-mounted radiator design, I would be sure to flush the radiator and replace the coolant regularly as a precaution.

Surprisingly, my last bike -an air-cooled Ducati Monster- ran at lower operating temps in traffic than the ST....

I ride year-round here in Phoenix. The only time to worry about overheating is when the fan doesn't come on....
