Do any of you know of a luggage rack that replaces the pillion seat and go all the way to the back of the bike without reaching behind the tail light?
In this picture I've indicated what I'm looking for:

Several manufactures can provide a rear luggage rack like the one from Altrider but I'm looking for one that is slightly longer as described in my first post.

- but thank you for responding Tyke.

I do not believe anyone makes such a beast, the best you can hope for is a two piece unit, as shown by Tyke. I think that allows for changes to be made easier? Only way is to have one custom made..... not ideal but then at least you get what you want as you want it.

Don T, how many inches are you looking for. This is not your answer though a reference.

If you remove the passenger seat and lower the OEM rear rack... you will be able to put a 22" dry bag inline without hanging over the rear rack. The base will be flat.

If you install the Altrider plate a rear rack (with spacers)... you should be able to put a 25" dry bag inline but the rear rack will be stronger and wider.

The ideal length would be 46 cm/18 inches.

If possible I would like to avoid a two piece unit - both for practical and aesthetic reasons. Besides fitting my needs I also want my bike to look good.
Custom made is always a solution - I just what to make sure that the product is not already out there somewhere...

My bike is similar to the one in the picture which means that I don't have an OEM rear rack.

Ok, the answer is no, nobody makes one. Buy the Touratech or the AltRider pillion rack and bolt your own plate to it.

I'll probably end up doing just that.

Hepco & Becker has a rear rack that does have two pieces, don't know how firm you are on that stance. Though the actual rack that connects to the plate (which replaces the pillion seat) has some leeway on how far back you want to mount it, giving an approximate total length of 15-16 inches.

Could also replace the bulkier Alurack plate with a Minirack plate, which is much thinner and would sit almost flush with the other plate. (Minirack plate is similar to as seen below)

Don, this is a long shot and I know this link refers to a Kawasaki GTR (Concourse), but this guy makes exceptional products, maybe he could fabricate something for you

It could be worth a shout, any how good luck ::008::

Are these even with the pillion grab handles or below them?
Maybe a side pic?
Below the grab handles (which is another thing my bike isn't equipped with)

I am sure there is someone on this forum that would sell the grab handles they will never use again. I keep mine for resale but remove them since they usually get in the way of tying down luggage.

Sometimes (more than I'd like to admit) the simple things escape me. I never thought about taking them off.

Ignoring the auxiliary fuel cell, this was a pretty simple rear rack slightly longer than the seat. Easily cut to size.

OX-34 - What are the dimensions of the plate?

I made a plate -aluminum/diamond- for my last bike and still have it - it's about 11" X 24". I'll look into using it.
did you have to make your own spacers or re-use the OEm?

I'm not near the bike at the moment, but I think it was about 600mm long (there's your 24 inches) by about 380mm or so. The width was simply to be wider than the pillion seat mount/box thing plus a little more that I bent for rigidity along the sides.

I made some spacers for the cluster of bolts at the back:

Plus the oddly angled ones at the front of the rack. There's one visible here immediately behind the seat:

There are also two bolt holes available in the middle somewhere, but they were a bugger to line up with the spacers so I didn't use them. These days I run an alloy tank and a pelican case up on top, but I still have the original rack as the platform it all sits on.
