Hi,

I just had a new rear tire put on. When I went to put the wheel back on the bike, I couldn't get the axle to pass through the rear hub.

I pulled the wheel back off and tried to pass the axle through the rear hub while it was off the bike and noticed that the rear hub spacer bearing (according to the parts files online) is floating. See third attached image.

Should it?

A few pictures attached for context where I've been able to move the spacer around in the hub.

Thanks!

That's normal. Only the axle shaft holds the spacer centered and it's free to move around when the wheel is off.
Thanks!

I was able to get the axle installed. I'm not sure why it was cranky. This is only my second time taking the wheel off and the first time I didn't need to fiddle as much.

I’ve encountered the floating, non-centered spacer problem a few times. I used a Dremel tool to radius the axle taper on the nut side.......it helps the axle entry and helps center the spacer.
