I posted this after seeing the Excel rimmed rear wheel for sale on here and I didn’t want to hi-jack the For Sale thread so I am starting a fresh thread.

Seeing your wheel inspired me to find out about changing my S10’s rims and so I emailed a very experienced and well respected wheel-builder over here. I was surprised at the reply which I have included below;

“I have to agree - the original wheels are not very pretty and the standard spokes are definitely not stainless.

I'm afraid I don't offer a re-spoking service for these wheels. I'm not comfortable fitting stainless spokes with a 90 degree bend to such a heavy, powerful bike.”

I originally asked about the possibility of fitting Excel rims, but he said it could be a tricky and expensive job, so the reply above refers to responding my own wheels with stainless steel spokes.

If you have someone (in the world) supply you the spokes, it’s not hard to lace them up. I’ve done the ST several times and laced up dozens of other wheels before.
