Raised dog bones easy install and way to get ground clearance

So after a few pavement rides I'm sold on this product. It does not effect the handling much at all at speed. As stated earlier, for some really strange reason the bike is way more balanced at slow speed. I've tried it at soft and hard preload settings and it's "lighter feeling" and easier to maneuver . I have not taken it off the pavement yet. That will be the big test.

So how many miles on the new dog bones ?
A few hundred so far. I’m really liking them! Next week I’m doing a multi day ride to North Rim via AZ strip. It will be lots of pavement and dirt.

I’ll give a better review and also try to do a ride report.

Looking forward to your thoughts post-ride Chris.
I'm sold on these!! I just got done with a 1300+ mile ride and they worked out fantastic. The bike is really stable and it helped with ground clearance in the rocks. My next step is to drop off my bike at RT and have the suspension rebuilt, re-valved, and re-sprung. But for now I'm going to keep running it until my fork bushings wear out or I get 10,000 miles out of it. I was fully loaded down with panniers and had no issues at all with frequent bottoming out or the bike handling strange.

You can read my ride report here:

I believe Chis has a non es model....I installed the rising Lust links on a 2015 es model. I purchased the bike used and I believe the spring is stock (yellow in color) and I like the clearance. The bike needs a longer kick stand (leans to far) and rides firmer no matter the setting. Do I like it? Yes but I'm 6'6" with a 37" inseam. I like doing duel track in the Rockies and the fire roads most often have a surprise challenge or two in them. I have Arrow headers so now the clearance is 9 inches. Ride and handling is little changed but I do not feel as qualified as many others on the forum to review performance.

I installed my riser links on Saturday that I got from OFF THE ROAD.
I'm probably 160kg geared up 195cm (6'4.5") and normally ride 2 helmet STD 0 when solo.
Went for a ride on Sunday. before I left home I set my ES to 1 helmet 1 bag STD 0. rode to the meet point and the bike felt great. Not much noticeable difference in turn in... may be a bit easier and smoother.
When we got to the twisties, the road surface was rougher and the rear end felt hard. so changed ES to Soft -2. this felt way better.

I did not ride as hard as i normally do, but the bike felt more comfortable and controllable in corners for me.

Now my big issue is swinging the leg over when my back seat is loaded with camping gear.
I did notice the height difference without my bags. I'll have to find a easier mount and dismount with the new height.
Did you get the 35mm riser links from OTR?
If you did - does the rear tire touch the ground when the bike is on the center stand?

I installed shorter linkages on an old Suzuki Bandit 1200 years ago and I can confirm the same differences - handled so much better on the twisty's. I did also add a Hyabusa shock as (if I remember rightly) it had a heavier spring.
Adding a suspension upgrade would definitely be worth it to get the spring weights and settings spot on.
By the way, I'm about 6'2" and have been reluctant to do this as sometimes i'm already on tip-toes sometimes! hahaha

NOT A MOD FOR THE VERTICALLY CHALLENGED!

It says on Lust racing website.
PLEASE NOTE THIS KIT WILL NOT FIT XTZ1200 ES SuperTenere models with Electronic Suspension!
Oh NM. I see there is a Model that fits the ES.

I have a 2015 S10/E so i can only have the O-T-R 25mm lift.
When on the center stand i have about 10mm gap tyre to ground .

Today I have put the standard links back on... need to see how the difference affects my riding... I did feel bike was more top heavy on the last trip with my camping gear loaded - even dropped the bike turning in some loose red dirt which normally I felt would not have happened.
I must say I did have some glorious fun jacked up have hammering through twisties, but it did not feel as connected/smooth as before.
I felt the ride was harder, and there was a front to rear pogo when set to HHL/Soft-2, HHL/Std-0 was better but ride was firmer - which I did not really like as I felt it wore me out more.

Will see how stock links feels .

Having read all this, I decided to go for the links for my 2016 ES, will be interested to see how it rides. I weigh 175lbs fully kitted up and am 6'2" tall so no problem to touch the ground, I already replaced the rear shock spring (2 years ago) with a stiffer one (cant remember the rating) as the static sag was too much for my liking with the stock spring, so will be interested to see what this slight rise does to the handling and the suspension behavior!! Thanks to everyone that has posted on here.

Ok I need to know if when the shorter links are installed on the ES model is there still enough ground clearance so that you can still easily turn the rear wheel by hand when it’s parked on the centerstand ?

This is the spot on way to install the links. Thanks again rstrom!!

Reason for me doing this is to give me some time to get some miles on my bike (before suspension re spring/service and still have the needed ground clearance. I opted for a set of the shorter links. They raised the bike 20mm. Now my bike no longer stands up straight with the kickstand down.

I highly recommend this company for these links. From the time I placed the order it was 7 days to my doorstep from the UK!! With shipping and exchange rate it came out to just about 100 bucks. Just make sure you order the proper ones for your bike. The ES model is a different PN and does not have as many lowering/raising options as the standard Super Tenere.

As usual Yamaha is a bit light on the grease. It took more time to load the grease gun than install the dogbones!! In the last year I have switched over to marine grease for almost everything.

I ended up breaking into my onboard toolbag and used my Eastbound tools "Wheel wedge" this is a back saver and super compact. Way easier than pry bar and it holds the wheel in place.

I'm very pleased with the outcome. The bike sits normal with the sidestand down instead of straight up. I have had more than a few close calls with the bike tipping over. And getting it up on the centerstand is way easier!!

A quick question:
How long are the +20 mm links from Lust Racing for the ZE model.
I just recieved +20 mm links for my non E model, and they seem to be quite a bit shorter (95 mm from center hole to center hole).
I'm just being curious.

You can turn the rear wheel on the es after the install. FWIW I removed the Lust links the bike rides hard no matter the setting which is OK but on a longer 300 + day it gets tiring.
