I have an older ogio quick disconnect tank bag that 1/4 turns into the gas cap mounting ring. I had it on my fjr for years but the handlebars (with risers) hit it when turning on the tenere. Do the givi an sw motech quick disconnect bags do the same?

With Givi, just set it on top of the tank ring and press down. To release, reach under the tank bag and pull back on a lever and lift up. No turning involved.

Depending on what model of tank bag. I have the xs308 and it has removable pockets on each side, with the pockets in place my controls do touch at full turn but hasn’t been an issue. With pockets removed there is lots of clearance.

I have this tank lock Givi bag. The bars do touch it on full lock, but more brush against it than interfere with it. Mines a Gen1 bike.

I bought a giant expandable water proof tank bag from touratech..... no clear map window to turn orange and crack out ruining the waterproofness of the bag ... touratech expensive ..... but I bought one as I like big usable tank bags..... 14 or 15 liters and expandable ... man it shows up at the house and it is sweet .and I notice its going to dominate the gas tank . finding a spot that does not interfere with my bars or me ... its mounting system was or is crap $400 dollars for a great bag and a 3 dollar mounting system .... no matter what tried the straps and attachment points did not let it mount where it would feel secure (a moving shifting tank bag that acts like it might fall off bike is a dangerous distraction for me ) so what to do .... I ordered a tank ring from twisted throttle and a tank bag mount (they have a replacement mount for their bags , has something to do with a redesign on some bags etc.) so the part for the tank bag is 2 piece , a bottom that attaches bag to tank ring and a top that goes into bag to sandwich the bag material for a solid mount. did some fitting and drilling and screwing and some gluing and it works . it snaps onto tank ring it does not move . bars do not interfere . while standing on pegs boys are not sitting on the bag and while sitting my belly is not rubbing the bag either. before this mod to get gas you had to unstrap it and when done strap it back , major pain . now pull the wire and off it comes out of the way ...... so I have a 500 dollar set up it works , took the scissors and cut off all the straps mounting stuff . so I have a busy morning but later today I will post a few pictures .

I tried the Yamaha Tenere tank bag, and really liked its placement while standing up. It’s size and configuration.
But, it was an inconvenience when fueling up, and it scuffed my paint. I assume any magnetic bag will do the same.
I bought a Givi snap ring bag and it is much more convenient. The mount works well, it is a little more intrusive while standing. Overall I’d give it a 9 out of 10. 343BBF3B-0DB5-4B36-AB1B-7D13BDC2F0E9.jpeg

I have a Givi tank ring mounted bag, the ring mounted to the bottom of the bag is adjustable by simply moving the screws that attach the bag to the ring. Had to move my tankbag a little closer to me after I mounted GPS on the handlebars because it was hitting the tankbag , it was very easy to move and that was nearly 70,000 miles ago and it’s been trouble free since.
I probably never would have paid the big money for a tank ring bag but it came with my first Tenere and after actually owning and using one I now say tank ring mount is definitely the best-hassle free way to go.

The GIVI setup is really nice, I’m using one as a camera bag.
I didn’t like the factory bag much at all.

What a great idea Terry!! I'm happy I kept my Yamaha OEM bag. I'm going to do the same fitting as you. Thanks for the tip. For touring the tank bags are really nice. I took mine off when offroad because it effects the handling of the bike too much.

I use a SW Motech Engage which works well, I've got standard bars with no risers and the bars don't touch the bag at all. It's easy to run a usb lead in through the front and plug it in to the accessory socket so that I can charge my phone when I need to.

Here we go . The white substance is flexseal that they peddle on tv . It works great. Ring on tank , replacement mount mounted to touratech bag it was not designed for. And on the bike.

the only part of the Touratech bag mounting system I saved is the piece of material attached under the seat , it is hook and loop that mates withe flap on tank bag . together with locking ring is very stable.

I have a 4L Oxford with magnetic mount and a safety strap. Really easy on/off and gas up with it. I can easily adjust its position on the tank depending on what I am doing

I bought the Yamaha City tank bag and SW Motech quick attach ring when I bought thr bike 5 years ago.
Hasn't let me down and stayed on the bike with the few off and drops.

It is based on the SW Motech City bag but is Yamaha logo accessory and has clear map pocket instead.
Side pockets are pretty useless but do take small thin items. I have some spare foam ear plugs, a lighter, bottle opener and a neck cooler.
it is water resistant but not water proof and comes with a rain cover.
It is expandable.
One of it best features is that i comes with a shoulder strap which you can wrap around and it can be taken with you in seconds.
Compared to the old Yamaha Super Tenere Tank bag this is smaller and neater. It does not hang limp at the back of the tank.
You can stand up fine, and if you need to lean forward you are not trying to push the bag up the tank like the old style.
It sits above the tanks and the only part that touches the tank is the bottom end at the back of the tank - but is protected by any tank protector.

The SW Motech bags come with the bag side mount not mounted. You have a nice range of front to back to choose where to place the mount on the bag to avoid bar interference. I never had issues with my 'City' bag on the Gen I with 1.25 up/back risers or the Gen II with Rox pivot risers.

I still have a new bag side mount if anyone using the SW Motech gas cap mount wants it. Quick Lock EVO. Make me an offer via PM.
