Question(s) To Those That Have The Seat Concept Product on their SUPER TENERE .....

FIRST BACKGROUND INFORMATION

I am working with a local motorcycle shop that does custom seat work for over 10 years.

I hired them to install and staple the Seat Concept Foam and Cover on my Super Tenere plastic pan.

As a larger guy ( 290 lbs ) I ordered the heavier duty foam.

The installer tried to install the Seat Concept cover over the heavy foam and the cover seems to be tearing and ripping. (Staples not holding cover)

Shop suggested that perhaps Seat Concept does not provide a bigger / stronger cover to handle the extra force the heavy foam requires.

As this happened Sunday I will call Seat Concept on Monday ( Feb 27 )

QUESTIONS:

ANYONE HAVE THE HEAVY FOAM FOR THE S10? (Super Tenere)

DOES SEAT CONCEPTS HAVE DIFFERENT COVERS FOR HEAVY FOAM KITS?

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I did a DIY staple job on my Seat concepts foam and cover for my 2012 Versys 650 seat.
I also had foam made for my 150kg frame.

I did not have any issues with cover not holding the foam when stapling

I did folllow seat concepts guide on how to staple.

I did not have any isues with tearing the cover, even after 3-4 staple redo's to correct creases.

Maybe the guy has the air pressure turned up too high on the air stapler and he's driving the staples too deep and the bridge of the staple is cutting the material.

I used a cheap hardware chain $20 air stapler and stainless steel staples from a marine products supplier.
I tested the air gun and adjusted the regulator on my compressor so that it did not drive the staples too hard and cut the material.

I've done a couple of SC seats with a hand stapler, no problem with either. I would think it would be one of two problems:

1. they are compressing it too much,

and/or

. they have the pressure on their gun a bit too high causing small rips when they go to staple

I have no knowledge of the heavy foam but I don't ever recall a heavy cover either. If it is denser, likely
compressing it creates greater pressure and thus it would be fitted looser, 'just a guess. SC likely would
have caught tho it you ordered the wrong cover for your foam tho. Call them & see what they suggest.
'Good luck, it will be worth it once you sort it out,

No problems here either installing the cover over their heavy foam. I even had to take mine off and reinstall due to a few wrinkles (my mistake) I couldn't live with.

Just received back my S10 seat pan with the cover installed by Seat Concepts.

Looks good and Seat Concepts replace the cover I sent them as the local Florida installer had issues and tore the seat cover.

(Heavy Foam for heavy riders with vinyl sides and rough top surface)

Been away a Daytona Bike week and seat came in while I was away for the fun so need to do some distance riding.

QUESTION: Do I need to do the Seat Mod (Bumpers) on the Seat Concept seat?

Probably not. Their foam rises toward the front, getting the same overall flattening of the surface.

Thanks for the comparison pics. I didn't realize the Seat Concepts was a bit wider in back compared to stock, seems like that would be a bit more comfortable.

I definitely put some holes in mine when I had my staple gun turned up to high. I had never used an air gun before and I actually blew a hole in it with just air, eventually I learned how to load it correctly and turned it way down. Then it all went well.

Short ride today.

On high setting the Seat Concept os about and inch higher that the OEM seat on the same setting. I now look higher over the windscreen.

New foam so I expect some bedding in over time.

Seat is a little wider so your legs are spread a little so more tip toe for me at 6'3" inseam ~ 32 / 33".

Seat is not as firm / hard as the Sargent seat I had for about 500 miles.

Seat Concepts Top rough cover holds me as well as OEM seat does.

A 100 mile ride at lower speeds today.

Seat is much more conformable than 2 year old OEM seat.

High Density Foam never bottoms out ... unlike OEM foam seat. (290 lbs rider) ...

Seat is too tall / wide for me 6'3" on the tall setting. OEM seat on tall was just right height width for me 290 lbs 6'3".

Plan is to lower seat for further ride testing.

I have the seat concepts kit that I put on myself. I ordered the gripper top with carbon fiber sides. My seat cover was very tight and definitely could have been bigger. I did almost tear mine and a staple or two did pop through. I just took my time and double stapled most of it. When I was done, there was no excess to trim off. Seat concepts should make their seat covers a little more generous on the back. The carbon fiber material does not seem very strong either.

I did do the seat level mod with mine and overall the seat concepts seat is a little better than the stock seat but not by much. If I could do it again, I would have just saved my money on the seat concepts and put it towards a Russell Day Long. As always, YMMV.
