Hello all...I perused this subject before I posted and didn't find the info I wanted, so here I am.

I'm looking at an upgrade for the rear shock on my 2014 S10 (non ES). I've dealt with Cogent Dynamics before with my V-Strom and found them to be a top notch company, so I'm looking at purchasing one of their shocks. When I spoke with them today, I found out that a remote preload isn't available for the S10 shock. For any of you that have a Cogent Dynamics shock, are you able to access the preload adjuster once the shock is installed in the bike? The guy I spoke to at Cogent wasn't sure. It's not a dealbreaker, but I would like to know for sure before I bought it.

Yes you can get it very easy. I'll see if I find a picture of mine. If not I'll take on tomorrow.

I did check on that, Kurgan. They said they don't do rebuilds on the Super Ten OEM shock:. Apparently it's too easy to ruin the original shock if they try to rebuild it.

That's strange, this is an exact quote from Rick when I inquired to them on April-16 this year.
"We can rework the OEM shock however a better option could be our $639 replacement shock."

IIRC their rebuild cost wasn't that much less than their replacement shock though.

Instead I went with Terry at Norwest Suspension in Idaho for re-spring and rebuild. Couldn't be more pleased with the work done, customer service and shock performance. $320 total which included return shipping.

Maybe they've changed their position on rebuilds since April;. Based on what I was told, it sounds like they've had a few S10 OEM shock rebuilds that didn't work out.

They rebuilt my OEM shock (although on a '12 Super Tenere) just over a year ago and really transformed the bike. Best of all, they charged me under $400 and made it rebuildable so that it can be re-built in the future.

Maybe its on the 2nd gen shocks that they are having issues?

I dont know, racer. I didnt go into much detail with them about it, other than to ask them if an OEM rebuild was available.

I had Cogent Dynamics replace the springs and revalve my front forks. I also bought one of their rear shocks. They did really good work, big improvement. The rear shock adjustments are easy to reach.

They are good people to work with.

I just installed a Cogent Dynamics shock on my 2013 Tenere and have a question for those who have done this .

The outside width of the Cogent clevis at the bottom of the shock is about 3/16" wider than the OEM shock.
The inside width of the clevis is the same on both the OEM and the Cogent shock.
In the attached picture you can see the Cogent clevis is thicker.

After I installed the bottom bolt and torqued the lock nut, the last thread on the nut was just inside the last thread on the bolt (the lock nut was flush with the end of the bolt), so I was a bit concerned that the bolt was not long enough.
I just removed the nut and put some red Loctite on the threads and retorqued the nut.

Did you replace the bolt/nut that goes through the bottom clevis on the shock?

What is a good source for a longer replacement bolt?
