Guys,

I would like to raise & bring bar closer to me by only about an inch. There are LOTs of options from Helibars, ROX, SW Motech & etc. But they all seem to move 2" or more, which requires to install 'extension' on the brake-line. I'd like to avoid extending any OEM setup ... all I really need is about '1 inch' higher/closer to me max, which would fit my short arms perfectly. I was thinking about ProTaper EVO Adventure Tall Handle Bar 1-1/8". Has anyone installed this or similar bar swap on their bike(s)? Thanks...

I put that same set of bars on with out risers , I did extend the brake line as said it can be done with out doing it but may be tight on full turn. I just like that little bit of slack and constant thinking of it pulling .. what may happen someday... Jaxon has them and its easy to install.. but I like the bars.

Me, too.

The ADV high bars replaced Rox Risers for me. I already had longer brake/ clutch lines from the Risers so I can't comment on that.
You will need to tap if you plan to use the stock bar-end weights with the Pro-Taper bars. It's easy, but you need the tool.

Space is at a premium on the high bars because the bend takes up so much of its length. The stock grips and perches all fit, but it's tight. The bar end weights add an inch or so of bar width, and you'll need every bit of it, IME.

The ergos are right for me, so no complaints there. Unless I'm imagining it, the bars have a fair amount of flex in them.

Search here. There was a pretty good thread on them with pictures and lots of comments.

Thank you guys!

It sounds like clutch/brake-line extension/mod is UN-AVOIDABLE. So, I'll just have to get longer clutch/brake lines as well. How do guys like the ProTaper Bar? Is the 'flex' that noticable?

Pretty sure it's Rox that makes a one inch up and one back fixed riser.

I should have been more specific. I don't notice the flex much when riding normally on street, only when muscling the bike around by the bars - like trying to push it around while walking next to it, or hitting a big obstacle off pavement. It might be a positive attribute in those situations, because it provides a little shock damping. It's noticeable, though.

You're thinking of Helibar Risers -- Rox makes pivoting risers and pivoting anti-vibe risers.

I, myself, just added a set of Helibars. At full lock on both sides, there's slack with the OEMs following their guide. I even added the Brake line extension they provide at the rumblings of another member who has had theirs on the bike forever without issue. Eventually when I make the move to steel braided, I'll need a set of Jaxon lines, but that's in the future.

For now the Helibars did exactly, for me, what the OP is asking for.

Steve you have a Gen 2 so couldn't the flex be coming from the bar mounts?

IDamn it, you made me get up and check!

So it does look like most of the flex I see and feel IS coming from the bar mounts. It's more noticeable because the ADV high bar puts the the grips further from the clamps/ mounts which increases their leverage, creating a "cheater bar" situation around the mounts.

Besides having more leverage (meaning it takes less force to move the mounts), the higher distance means that for any given angular deflection at the mounts, the grips sweep thru a larger arc, which exaggerates the effect.

SilverBullet for the win!

Your physics assumptions are sound logic and what I thought. Glad to hear as I just purchased a set of these bars and will install as part of a major refresh next year. If I knew in advance they had any concernable flex I would not be installing them.

I have the Pro Taper ADV "High" Bar, and you will absolutely need to extend the Brake & Clutch lines.
I have not noticed any flex in the bars themselves.

I personally would not recommend a Pro Taper handlebar. But that is just me. The various bends are very strange and causes my hands to numb. For me the OEM bend and HeliRiser has been perfect. If I was doing off road only I would keep just the stock bend with no risers.

ballsticexchris your one of the few , the stock bars are the one's that numbs everyone's hands as I read , they did mine on long rides as the Pro Taper fixed all that for me .. Good for you ,that's one thing you didn't have to change. It's kinda like the 17 degree angle the Glock has compared to the Sig .I'm the Sig guy..

Same with me........
The factory Bars caused me discomfort in my hands, shoulders, and upper back on longer rides. The bends were wrong for me.
The Pro Taper Bars eliminated that...................
Everyone is sized and shaped a little different though, so what works for me might not work for you.
Be prepared to try different Bars.

Same for me, 30" inseam and proportionally short arms.
I'm another one that the Helibars and OEM bars are working well for. After taking a 150 mile round trip the other day, I can say that they're infinitely improved.

The thing to take into account is how much off road are you going to do? I'm doing well over 90% pavement on this bike so the stock bend and HeliRisers are perfect. Standing is a little strange for sure. Getting rid of the tank bag did wonders for my comfort off road. Being able to get over the tank and ride off road is a game changer for me.

On my Beta and all my off road bikes you are punished and tortured when you sit down. Doing anything over 300 miles on my Beta and I was almost crying. I end up having to stop every few hundred miles to tolerate it. OTOH when standing it's magic!! All the pains and aches go away. 10 degree bar sweep and standing over the bars is the perfect riding position. It's all a compromise.
