Problem with ABS, the abs motor fuse burn out each time

Hello!

I have a problem with the ABS, the fuse of the abs motor burns every time I do 2 meters with the motorcycle. I suspect that the problem occurs since the last bike wash with the pressure washer.


Has anyone had a problem with the ABS, related to blown fuse, moisture, etc?

If the fuse burns, it is a sign that something is shorted…..if you say that the problem started “after” washing it with pressurized water…..I would start by checking the abs module plug…
You have 2 fuses….one for the abs module and another for the abs electric motor

Thank you, the the abs module plug is the big one under the seat right? removing the black plastic piece ? I already cleaned it, the problem continue.


and the ABS motor fuse is other, a big fuse of 30A, this is the one is burning. attachment included

Under the driver's seat, there is a four-pin “square” connector, check that it has the cover on and that it does not have water…. Did you buy the motorcycle used??…..I ask because it may have had a homemade abs disconnector, maybe once they took it out and left poorly insulated cables

Hi! I buy it used,but the previous owner do not changed abs, nor have problems (as he say )
no water in this connector. Already cleaned with a contact cleaner spray.

test with a multimeter….take out the blown fuse and test if there is continuity with the chassis/terminal(-) of the battery….if there is continuity, it could be a damaged cable (touch the chassis)…or the abs motor burnt….The abs motor “only” works when the abs is activated….or…when you use the front brake (combined braking)….the rest of the time it doesn't work.

That in principle would be good news…..You would have to rule out that the blown fuse is because the abs motor is stuck. You should search the forum for the procedure to cycle the abs pump….To manually run the abs motor……

while looking for a solution I run the abs cycle procedure and it inmediately burn the fuse.

That would not be good news… but I don't remember reading anything about it. It would be necessary to check the abs motor “relay”.….

It sounds like you need to open up the ABS unit, I suspect the electric motor (inside the ABS control, unit) has sezied and is causing excessive current. Probably water has got inside the motor unit and caused corrosion which is preventying the electric motor from turning and that is making the fuse blow whenever the ABS unit tries to power up the electric motor. You might try buying a used ABS control unit and swapping it out, then you can dismantle your unit and try to find the issue. A few people have opened these units, but I have not seen much success in repairing them, most just replace them with new or used units from eBay. If money is tight, just remove the fuse that keeps blowing (or leave the blown fuse in place) and ride the bike, you just wont have ABS when you ride, I personally have never had the ABS operate so it would not bother me if it is not working, but each rider has their own opinion on this..

Another check that you can do is to replace the fuse with a lamp, of several watts (55w)….if when you cycle the abs, the lamp comes on….it is a sign that the engine, when it tries to drive, goes to ground… ..If the lamp does not come on, it could be a sign that the motor is only stuck, but not burnt... and the fuse is blown due to excessive consumption

I’ll suggest yopu check this again. I think your bike is fine its just stuck not burnt

There is a ABS Motor Relay within the ABS Module (part of the electronics PCBA). It maybe water have ingressed into the PCBA area and is causing the short. But prior to removing the ABS module, it is good to trace the wiring from the ABS Motor fuse and see if there is any damaged to the wiring that could have caused a short to ground each time the ABS motor is activated. The wiring circuit of the ABS Motor fuse is a +12V hot when the motor is activated. Using a continuity check (Ohms resistance) ; remove the fuse and probe one terminal to GND and then repeat for the other terminal would quickly sort out if there is a short to GND. If there is no short circuit, then look at the ABS Module.

The ABS motor is probably good. A burnt out stator wire of the motor would cause a slow moving motor or not running at all but won't short out the fuse. But if the rotor and stator are somewhat are in contact, that would short out the fuse but this is unlikely but if rusts or presence of water are causing the shorting path, then it maybe the case.
