Slick hijack question. Anybody install the ADV low version of this bar? Any need to lengthen hoses. I don't need bar rise but like the sweep change of this style bar.

You could get away without lengthening the hoses with a lower Bar.

With the ADV-High bar, you almost are able to get away with the OEM clutch hose by putting it behind the forks. The Brake hose, there's no way!

I originally considered a lower Bar. I checked into a couple different ones, but when I measured to where I thought I needed to be, it ended up that the ADV-High Bar was going to be the best fit for me.

Took a 90-mile test ride today.

The Bars definitely feel more natural to ride with (I'm tall. 6'2")
I would say the Clutch and Brake fluid was overdue for a flush/bleed!

The clutch lever feels about the same to me, but the shifting seems quite a bit smoother. Both up and down shifts.
The front brake lever feels a lot firmer than it did before, with nowhere near the lever travel to engage the brakes as it had before.
The rear brake lever feels about the same to me. Rear brake works good. It will lock up the rear wheel on dirt if I push it far enough.

Very satisfied with the High-Bar addition, and also with the longer hoses and fresh fluid.
Nice write up and pictures. Thanks!

<Edit> Disregard. Found a quality taper tap at Shars Tool Company, made in USA. Cost more money, but after reading the reviews of some taps on Amazon I decided not to waste my money there. One company named Drill America to make you think it is an American made product could more appropriately be called Screw America.
<Original post>I see that taps come in 3 styles, taper, plug, and bottoming. Which style do I need to tap the bar ends?

Just installed my new Pro Taper Adv. question for all of you... are you guys using the original bar inserts and if so, how are you removing them from the old bars?

Are you referring to the Bar end-weights?
They just unscrew with a large allen-wrench.
I used my original ones in the ends of the new Bar.

No, the actual threaded inserts inside the bar that the weights and bark busters bolt into.

As far as I know, the original Bar is just tapped threads in the end of it.
You do the same to the Pro-Taper Bar. It uses a 16mm x 1.5 thread tap. There are no inserts that i know of.........

Ok. So, how do I remove the inserts from the stock bars to use in the new ones? How’re they supposed to thread out? My brain’s hurting over this one!

OK, mine's a 2014.
I'm not sure if the earlier bikes had the same threaded bar-ends as the Gen-2 bikes.
Are you running factory Hand-guards? or do you have aftermarket ones?

That makes sense then that there is an insert inside yours.
I'm not sure how you would get it back out once it's installed.
You might have to just get new inserts from Barkbuster.

G2Ergonomic sells this piece of kit. Comes with or without the tap. Take your time, make sure the tap is straight and clean the shavings frequently for best results.

Thanks for the help guys. I had to cut the old bars to get the stock inserts out as I was more just curious to see what they looked like! They were punched right into the bars and unusable on the new ones. Picked up a set of Moose wedge inserts to try them out. Using a tap set will most likely be the way I go, but going to give these wedges a try. Taking out the new bars for a rip today! Hopefully they ride as good as they look! 14CDE5DC-1381-43EA-9E7A-FA518F65D0E4.jpeg

On the stock bars the inserts are welded in.
As BaldKnod stated, you need to get some threaded inserts.
There are a number of company's that make them, I used the anti-vibe ones from Highway Dirt bikes, but they have regular ones too.

(Edit) I see you already have a solution - don't mind me!

I had those HDB inserts before on my KTM 300 and they really save your hands from going numb!

Here's a potential good deal if the bidding doesn't escalate. Bar already tapped for handguard inserts.
