As Checkswrecks and I mentioned this spring, we want feedback on what dates are most attractive for everyone.

Considering it would have been nearly impossible to have picked a dry weekend in 2018, I was inclined to suggest going to our traditional first weekend in May. I brought that up with Romney and was met with hesitation. That weekend is in direct conflict with a the Apple Blossom Festival 40 minutes away. It turns out to be very challenging for Romney to identify food vendors (or even a single vendor) to support the Camp N Ride. The food vendors are at the festival and Larry always has to work hard to find anyone to support us that weekend. Without a doubt, it is the single biggest PITA item for the dealership about hosting the event in early May.

Rather than avoiding early May as an option, we are still putting it up there to see if people are okay with not having on-site food during the Camp N Ride.

The weekend after Mother's Day is also problematic in that is conflicts with multiple other adventure events traditionally held on that weekend. One Strom event and another official ADVrider event, just to name two. It's not our goal to step on any other event. It's on the list, but unless there is overwhelming demand, it's probably not going to be strongly considered.

All the other dates would be totally new for the Camp N Ride. As you vote your preference, please let us know if there are any other events we're not aware of that would make any of these dates undesirable.

You may pick your top two choices.

Dear Dad,
As I contemplate my choices, I wonder about the availability of Dealer trucks and the attraction of demo rides. Any input from the folks at Romney as their preference for dates to continue to make that happen?

I would love to attend a couple Tenere rallies but right now it’s to early to say what dates might work for me. That’s another nice thing about riding a Goldwing there are quite a few get together’s spread out all over the country.

Best post ever
You know Patrick, you could stand to learn some respect like Mr. Porcupine has shown.

Regarding the trucks I can only speak generally since we don't have a date.

Year after year Romeny is the number one Suzuki dealer in the USA. In general Suzuki does consider it important to support Romney Cycles. If possible based on schedule, I would expect it is likely we'd get their factory truck.

It does appear that Yamaha has cut back in general on where they send the truck. We would certainly request to have the truck, but I don't have as high a hope for that one.

Tough to say what the best time might be for me. I'm going to try to make it next year regardless. I could tie it in with visiting my sister in MD. Still a little dinged from a fall in Sept., we'll see how the spring goes.

Wellll - We have 16 votes each on ADV and somewhat similar here for the traditional weekend before Mother's Day and the weekend after Memorial Day, which would be June 1-3. People have been pretty vocal about not holding Romney in the July/August heat of summer and the polling reflects that. Dirt Dad and I have also had questions about having Romney in the Fall which this YST poll has in the lead and we are open to it, as are the folks at the dealership.

Getting a food vendor on site for breakfasts is still a challenge for any of the three weekends still in discussion. Not saying it won't happen, but odds are not good right now. Since there is so much close up-town, it shouldn't be a huge problem. btw - If you haven't tried the VFW breakfast it's pretty good.

We are down to three weekends. Looking at competing events already scheduled or when they took place in 2018 puts the least competition on Labor Day weekend. Our first years at Romney were great weather and this year the weekend before Mother's Day is actually in May, so hopefully we can get a year of good weather again. Holiday weekends are two-sided swords, in that it lets people travel farther or relax, versus many have family commitments.

So here's a mini-poll for those three dates: Simply post which one of the three you prefer:
May 3-5 (Traditional Romney date of weekend before Mother's Day)
May 31-June 2 (is after Memorial Day Monday)
Aug 30-Sep 1 (is Labor Day weekend)

fwiw, To see part of how we got here, below is the list of competing events for all of our time that was mentioned above. We pulled together the ADVRider threads and other known events of 2018 and those already announced for 2019. The events ending with a period are announced 2019 dates and those ending with question marks were 2018 dates, so we don't know their 2019 dates. If any of you have corrections to this list, just post them with your vote and I'll update this post.

Adding up the polls from the various threads, we come up with the following votes in the lead three spots:

29 votes for June 1/2 - After Memorial Day. (Besides, we gotta keep twodogs happy ;) )
.....Potential conflicts: Durty Dabbers?
25 votes for May 4/5, the traditional Romney weekend before Mothers Day.
.....Potential conflicts: Laurel Fork's 2nd weekend, Green Ridge Dual Sport? Classic M/C Day
21 votes for early/mid Sept.
.....Potential conflicts: Blue Ridge ADV NC? BWDR? Snappin Turtle NY? Meadows of Dan? Blue Ridge Rally?

Any more thoughts before we see if any are better or worse for the dealership to host us?
