So its been a while since i had a bike worth cleaning.

The vstrom looked way meaner dirty.

So large amounts of acf50 in all the nooks and crannies to keep the winter at bay.

What do people use on paintwork and plastics these days.

Ive always used mer on the paint and armourall on the plastics but lots of new stuff these days.

All year biker ? , ceramic coatings anyone got real world advice for using the XT all year round - thanks !

Hi Rob, my mate has a Kawasaki ZX1000 and he recently contacted a company about this ceramic coating. In all fairness, the company advised my mate to check in case it invalidates his warranty as he has had some bikes overheat after the engine was ceramic coated.

For my money, much though I hate cleaning bikes, I would carry on with the products that you already use.

I've got a mate who owns a company called Cheeky Monkey (you'll find them on Facebook) who do ceramic coating using CFC products having seen their work it makes the paintwork really shine, it also makes the bike easier to clean, they guarantee the beading effect for 3yrs and will top it up if needed.

It's not cheap but I wish I'd had mine done but its past saving now! Lol

Paint and plastics, clean with furniture polish, Mr Sheen/Pledge, then put on ACF 50 with a piece of microfibre cloth, leave for an hour, then wipe over with a fresh, clean piece of microfibre cloth.

When the tank is next up, peel back the black trim and apply the same there.

I own a 16 year old BM 1150GSA with 80k miles, there's less corrosion than the 15k mile 14 plate S10 I recently bought!
The bike looks like it might have been rode along a beach and then never washed for several years.

It's a long story ( and I might do a rebuild thread one day...when the stress levels have reduced ), but a seized spark plug turned into an engine out / head off / rebuild, and I've never encountered as many seized bolts / pins before as I just have.
The rust on the frame under the existing paint and a huge amount of oxidisation on alloy surfaces has been ridiculous.

I'm pretty much rebuilding a Get 1 bike with only 15k miles due to corrosion.

Don't get me wrong, these are brilliant bikes but if you live in a damp climate and ride year round then please use AC50 liberally and more importantly, remove your spark plugs / coil sticks annually and get some dielectric in there....

I run a motorcycle courier business in Folkestone and use a 2003 BMW 1150GS and a 2017 S10 Z model. Both bikes get ridden all year. For the first time, this year I have used XCP Rustblocker bit like acf 50 but thicker. I sprayed it everywhere apart from the wheels and brakes back in October last year. Apart from stripping and cleaning the callipers a couple of times and giving the discs a good clean I had not washed bike since October. Last weekend I washed the bike for first time since applying the product and I’m pleased to say it’s spotless, no corrosion anywhere not even on any of the fasteners. It has saved me many a cold wet weekend washing the bike for fear of bits corroding in the freezing cold only for it to look like a tractor by Monday afternoon. XCP Rustblocker really works.

I am complicated with cleaning. I have no problem getting dirty, but when it comes to cleaning, it has to be “clean”. only for the tank, I use a furniture polish (the best on the market) it brightens and hides the micro-stripes, only for the tank because it has silicone and makes the dust stick easier. For the rest of the bike, (and for the dash of the car, imitation leather seat, door panels), I use a glass cleaner (the best on the market), it removes the dirt, it dries in the moment and it “doesn't shine” the areas that are Matte color (engine, tires, plastic). For a deep cleaning, I use a steamer, but ... if there is more complicated dirt, I add a measure of glass cleaner to the steamer ... aaahhh ... this is like an "orgasmic" cleaning:):)
