I've heard that the Anakee 3s make a weird sound as well (from other riders and my cousin). My cousin actually replaced his A3s early with wilds and likes them much better.

I'm personally running Scorpion Rally STRs. The road balance is great, and the fire road grab is better than a 90/10 by far. The STRs have made a bit more noise, but typical of a horizontal block pattern. The A3s whistle - it's weird.

I lived in So UT until recently. 330 days of sunshine. Rode all over the US, but the point is that it's a Good Idea™ to put some grease or antisieze on the alxes so they slide out easy at the next tire change. Especially if you end up going a while between changes. Even for a CA rider, they can just dry out and be a real pita to get out. 10 minutes now is better than an hour and cursing later. ;)
Yup! I finally loosened my sphincter muscle and bought some moly grease for the axle and splines. Gotta admit that the wheel sure sounds quieter when I spin it around. ;)

Hey, maybe the howling sound is a plus when I’m splitting lanes in dead stopped CA traffic and people will not cut in front of me! (I’m really big into wishful thinking.).

That howl is one reason I'll never have another set of Anakee 3s. Totally normal even though for commuting I got roughly 18,000 miles.
Absolutely grease the axle with almost any corrosion preventive grease or the axle can corrode to the sleeve. Removal will require the use of heavy tools and words normally not uttered in mixed company.
