Ok Guys,

This is not your typical oil question as I already know what oil to use.

But what is the preferred oil weight that everyone is using. From what I have seen from Yamaha, a good 10w/40 is alright, but I kind of feel that maybe a heavier weight would be better, especially in this Texas heat ?

My (YMMV) preferred oil is Rotella T 15w40 regular oil. I have used it and either a Yamaha, HiFloFiltro, or Honda oil filter with no problems since 2011 with the four different S10s I have owned.

Other opinions will surface and will work also.

10w40 should be fine and if you can find it, a 10w50 might be better for the Texas heat in the summer time, but how often does it get over 110 degrees? I'm in the same situation here in Louisiana and I've been using 10w40 in the S10 and my four wheelers. I do, however, use bike-specific synthetic instead of the regular dino after initial break in and have always in every bike I've owned. In my opinion, 20w40 or 20w50 gets a little too heavy on the lower end and you can hear the valve train rattle more on cold start ups until the oil gets circulating.
