So I have a new 2019 Es and at 1000km it developed an oil leak from the tell tell water pump hose. It went in to Yamaha for the repair at 1800km. They replaced the seals.
Now at 3500km the leak is back. Have anyone ran into this?
Its under warranty so Yamaha will fix it but holy.

I think you mean the weep hole on the water pump? Tell-tale hole or hose would be outboard motors.

There have been a few reports of very minor weeping from the water pump's hole, but that is usually coolant, not oil. It sounds like there is a scratch on the impeller shaft that is damaging the oil seal when the impeller is installed. That would explain the original leak and the repeat.

At least the duplex seals are doing what they're supposed to, keeping the oil and water separate.

Ha, just noticed there's a plug shown for that weep hose. Mine never had one. And how are you supposed to see a problem with the plug installed?

Look at the very bottom of the image above. There's a plug and a spring clamp to hold it in. The plug image is a lighter grey than anything else in the image. There is no part number though, the spring clamp is #19. The fiche says it's a clamp.

I know what you are describing. Go look at your bike. The spring clamp #19 holds the hose. The lighter image is of the bolt that holds the spring clamp to the engine. That is why there is no number.

All in all, I was just commenting on what it looked like.

I was just wondering if anyone else ever had that problem, in the grand scheme Yamaha will be fixing it under warranty as the bike is new. This will be their second attempt and how they choose to fix it doesn't matter to me as they will get it back if it leaks again.
Now the bike is put away for the winter so they wont be getting it till spring but it has been recorded with their warranty department and scheduled in the spring.
Last time they changed all the seals including the mechanical seal and within a few hundred kilometers it started to leak out of the tell tell hose again. I suspect this time it will get an entire pump assembly.

Yes, it happens. Twice in a row is rare. They replaced my whole pump, did not do a reseal.

I realize it's cooler in your area now, but day time temps are above freezing and it's pleasant sunshine for days at a time. Why not run it into the service dept now so it's ready for you to ride in the Spring? Forecast high of 11C tomorrow! :) That's T-shirt weather in the PNW. Have you been taking it to Kelowna Yamaha?

For about $70 you can buy the impeller, seals and gasket. I know what I would do. But I would take it apart first to make sure if the shaft is damaged or did they screw the seal up putting it in. #19 in the parts list is just a hose holder, not a clamp.

Yes Kelowna Yamaha is the dealer taking care of it while its under warranty. That is the dealer I bought it from.
The plates are done for the season and now the bike is in storage, currently switching to winter, we have snow in the mountain's and will be getting the sled's ready. My other addiction and passion.

Can you let your registration lapse seasonally up north? That could be a nice thing to have.

I insure the bike for road use 7/8 months out of the year. The minimum you can do here is 3 months. The rest of the year the bike falls under a storage policy and cannot be driven on public roads. Its a significant saving being I wont ride in winter on snow covered roads, then leaving it insured all year round.
I use both the government and private insurance/registration.

Hello, I am from Spain. It has happened to me too. Exactly like your situation with 2800km. With 2800km I ruled out the possibility of adapting the mechanical seal, when they are new there is a possibility of small losses but with 2800km that should not happen. I am not a friend of professional mechanics or dealerships, so I decided to buy a new pump from my wallet. I did not want them to change only the seal by Yamaha's dealer, I prefer to inspect it myself. To quickly solve the problem I bought a new pump so no more complications. I have not disassembled the old pump yet but my intention is to inspect what the problem was, I will probably repair it if I ever need to replace it or the possibility of selling it repaired.

I think probably the shaft pomp is damage.

Ive run into this several times..... The first time we just installed new seals and, like you, it just came back... We installed a whole new housing and have not had an issue again. Installing the new seals is a total PITA as well. The design totally sucks. Another bike came in and we just flipped the pump out to a new one, no issue.... I suggest a whole new one, and that should take care of it.. Save the old one incase you ever break a casting or need other parts off of it. (just info from my past experience)
