Why do you need funnel vent?
Wont the crank case vent allow air inside the engine to escape? - that is the purpose of the CCV.

Also, why not just design a connection tube that will allow a disposable drink bottle to attach (just cut the bottom off - that way you don't have to carry a funnel all the time.
you only need to save a drink bottle for when you need to do the fill and then you can also dispose of that.

The vent is a bit of over thinking a non existent issue. What brand of drink bottle do you make the adapter to fit? When doing a change at home you need to go out and buy a specific brand of drink? Why not just stuff the drink bottle in the fill hole? In 200,000 miles of wandering I've never done an oil change on the road. 5,000 miles always seems to be enough to get home again for me.

I like the idea. Unfortunately I’ve never had to change the oil on a ride. I need longer rides!

I would most likely use one of these at home just for convenience. It would go in an action packer tote as to keep the garage dustfrom collecting on the funnel. I don’t want to go looking for a drink bottle or a oil bottle to cut up if I don’t have to.

Concur. I would like one for the garage and prefer not to cut up bottles and deal with all that waste.

I haven't had the need to change oil in the middle of a trip so I just use a FloTool 05034 Super Funnel in the garage. It stays in the oil fill port with no bungees or other means to hold it because of the tapered section at the tip of the funnel. Less than $5 bucks everywhere.

You need the vent, trust me. You may think 22mm is big enough to not need, or the engine has other means of venting, but if you try to fill without vent, good luck, it will back up in the funnel and take 5 minutes to put in 1 quart of oil. So if you don't mind 15-20 minutes to fill 3 1/2 quarts you don't need.

Drink bottle idea would be something standard like a coke PET bottle 600ml size (or what ever imp size over the pond) - again thinking this is to carry on a trip so buying a coke and using the bottle can be space saving.

Now for home use i think this is over engineered... i just use a cheap funnel with some PVC tube on the end which I stick in the hole - and twist tied to the crash bars.... not over engineered and pretty sure used by countless mechanics over the years.

Yamaha engineers sure designed a lousy engine oil fill hole, if it wasn’t for that we wouldn’t even be discussing this. If the new funnel isn’t to expensive I might actually buy one otherwise I will stick with the old cut off bottle method.

Many years ago I changed oil on a trip once but these days I don’t worry about it at all, have ridden to Alaska and back which for me is about 10,000 miles without changing oil and it doesn’t bother me at all. My Goldwing has had lots of 10,000 mile oil changes, one was actually 12,000 miles and it still runs like new after 556,000 miles.

The primary idea of the funnel is to screw it there, and be sure wont fall or move when I'm pouring the oil.. That was my primary concern. I know that you can even use a soda bottle. I just have the way to design something with a little better finish :D

I will be printing the v2. and upload some new pictures. If someone is near to change the oil I will send 1 for free in an exchange for a review :)

I am due for an oil change right now (4,000 miles), but I don't think your funnel will fit with my lower crash-bars.

BTW can I have a picture from the top of the hole? I want to see if we have clearance to go thru with a pipe.

When I get home, I can take some more pictures and some measurements.

I've got OEM Yamaha lower bars, with Rumbux upper bars.

The lower bars looks like they do the same path as the givi, but the upper cover more, so not sure :D

I don't think there is any way to do this type of funnel without a really long extension tube.
Even then, it doesn't look like you even have a straight shot to the fill hole.
