+1 on the 3.5L. -100 on the sight glass. The sight glass is only accurate under the very specific circumstances outlined in the owner's manual. Under NO OTHER CONDITIONS IS IT ACCURATE. Sometimes it's hugely off. Just sitting in the garage after an oil change is not a representation of the oil level. It just tells you, yes, there is some oil in there.
Yep' and that's exactly what I did. My bike is parked level, on the center stand, and in the same place every time. I'm pretty darn confident it was because all my previous oil changes were done on the center center stand. I really like draining it on the side stand. It seems to get a lot more oil out.
Per owners manual:
To check the engine oil level
1. Place the vehicle on the center-
stand. A slight tilt to the side can
result in a false reading.
2. Start the engine and warm it up for
ten minutes until the engine oil has
reached a normal temperature of
60 °C (140 °F), and then turn the
engine off.
3. Wait a few minutes until the oil set-
tles, and then check the oil level
through the engine oil level check
window located at the bottom-right
side of the crankcase.
4. If the engine oil is below the mini-
mum level mark, add sufficient oil
of the recommended type to raise
it to the correct level.
After the the oil settles you can get a very accurate reading by adding just a little at a time and waiting for it to show in the window. This bike is a little fiddly with oil changes but the window reading actually works if you do it according to the manual.
