Off the wall question, could the ST make it through the Trans American Trail?

You need to read some of the epic Ride Reports.

What you'll find is nothing short of amazing.
Short answer is the bike isn't really the question. :)

Absolutely not! Yer crazy to even consider it.

LOL - In case you missed it - Look in TrikePilot's signature line for the link to his having done what you ask.

2-up might be more difficult. But then . . .

Well, now you have quickly discovered that there just might be way more to the story than the average joe would know. :)

The great news is that it is all documented here. Take your time.
AND, as you uncover the REAL story during late night reading, you can go in your garage anytime you want and stare at yours. The same exact weapon.

Welcome.

And that's why I got her. There's no way little 'ol me is gonna break this thing. Because she really is a weapon; use her responsibly. ::022:: ::012::

I was just funning with you and some of the other crazy types here. I did the TAT last summer from the Atlantic to the Pacific (6100mi) on a 2012 Tenere. I felt it was the perfect machine for this trip. Others may differ in that viewpoint, but as SnakeBitten said - the bike is not the question. The Tenere is tough as nails and reliable as a hammer. Properly outfitted it makes for a great offroad machine or even world tourer.

Interestingly... when I was doing my preTAT planning at ADVrider in an effort to glean some tips based on real experience, I received a PM from some anonymous member who tore me a new one for even thinking of doing the TAT on the Tenere. Why exactly someone feel compelled to reach out and lecture down to a total stranger based on a bike choice was beyond me. The bottom line... the Tenere was a fantastic bike for the TAT. Yes it was a little harder in the hard sections (maybe 5% of the TAT) but it was an utter joy munching miles on the 95% of the TAT that is not technical at all.

A guy did the TAT on a Harley FLH with a sidecar attached, so I guess a Super Tenere isn't out of the question.

Great story Trikepilot!

You should have expected the lecture. You outright endangered the well established boundaries of the....well, the establishment!
I love that other forum. Truly. I have many virtual ADV friends over there. But it is so funny to run into the desktop-ADV police, on occasion.
I suppose there are some folks that desperately need the structure and rules that allow them to nicely categorize\label the motorcycle universe.
They mean no harm, in my opinion. I bet their closet is perfectly organized too. They probably have their life planned in a spreadsheet.

My embracing of chaos, (semi controlled chaos) would be shear torture for them.

And if they saw my Tenere - still unwashed since the TAT almost a year ago now - they would have an aneurysm.

Embrace the chaos, indeed...
Loved your report!

If I did it, based on your report I'd start in Colorado and head to the west coast.

Same here. Slab it for a couple days and get to the good stuff. Start in Trinidad then head west.

Madhatter,

Technically, trikepilot washes his bike more than most.
Several times in a day, in fact.
Don't let him fool ya.

(more of a "drive-thru" experience. Trouble is, it's dirty going in, and dirty coming out. So less than effective)
