Re: UK Super Tenere Console/trip reset failure
My left button failed recently - 2013 model Tenere with 12000 miles. Took it apart to see what I can find (I have a background in electronics). The "O" ring seal / gasket between the backing plate and the main housing looked to be a little twisted in one corner. The backing plate also had a tide mark in the same corner - possibly suggesting some water ingress. The whole assembly was dry when I looked at it but then it hasn't been ridden in the rain or washed for a couple of weeks. There appeared to be nothing mechanically wrong with the switch. Both of them felt the same and had the same positive click when pressing.
However, there was evidence of corrosion. Firstly in the form of a green powdery substance (probably cupric chloride), and secondly some of the tracks at the edges of the circuit board also looked pitted and corroded, even under the solder resist. I didn't have the time or inclination to de-solder and remove the LCD to get a better look at the board, but I'm fairly convinced that this corrosion is the cause of my problem - and even if it wasn't then something else would surely fail soon. Not very impressed. Still deciding what to do. I could test my theory by bypassing the PCB and running thin wires from the switch to whatever they're connected to, but that would require a lot more de-soldering / disassembly and I might make it worse. I also found a place that does instrument cluster repairs not too far from here so I might contact them and see what they say

I would be interested to know if anyone else has found a poorly fitted gasket or corrosion on the PCB? I may go after Yamaha with this.
