Man oh man what a sweet bike!! Full specs just announced today!! This is a full redesign frame and motor. This bike is getting into Ducati territory in weight to power ratio. I can see it being easy to make it a under 400lb bike by tidying up the tail and replacing exhaust.

I thought the '21 looked a lot shorter, but when I checked, the wheelbase is only .4" shorter than the '20. I wouldn't have thought the 900cc class was the future, but maybe Yama-mama knows best.

Can you imagine getting this some high performance suspension, a new exhaust and a dyno tune? Yamaha is doing it right.

Yeah that bike is one set of penske/ohlins/racetech shocks front and rear from being superb. You know its gonna be sprung for a 120lb rider lol.

Not a fan. If I were to pull the trigger on a bike like that it would be the MT10....3rd generation FZ1

Why would they need to do that when they have the MT-10, probably the best in it’s class and it sounds amazing too!
The MT10, like the Suzuki and Honda 1000cc naked bikes, which are de-tuned sportbike engines are gutless. Comparatively speaking, they have no torque and need high rpm to flex their muscle. Ducati, Aprilia and KTM are all doing a far better job for sport-oriented naked bikes.

Now, why a 1200cc triple? To produce an engine that could deliver over 70 pounds of torque to the rear wheel right off idle and peaking at around 85-90 pounds. Couple that with approx. 130-135hp at the rear wheel and the incredible sounds a triple makes? It would be glorious.

The MT-10 gutless??? Now that is something I never expected to hear! Yamaha de tuned the MT-10 but they also altered quite a lot inside the engine including crankshaft and connecting rods, valves, etc specifically to give more torque at substantially lower revs than the sports bike it came from. In fact, a recent magazine test of the MT-10, Ducati V4S, Kawasaki ZH2 and the KTM Super Duke R put the least powerful motorcycle, the MT-10 in first place because of the torque and the fact it didn’t need to be revved making it far mor rideable. Now I rarely agree with Willy-waving bike journalists but it was quite refreshing that they came out in favour of a bike producing 50bhp less than a couple of the other bikes it was up against.

You have obviously never ridden an MT10. Do not let the slightly tall 1st gear fool you into believing you have to rev it to get power.

Actually, I have.....FZ09's stock, and with full exhaust and remapped, stock MT09's and an MT10 equipped with a slip-on exhaust and a Power Commander. Look at this sample dyno chart for an MT10 - it doesn't deliver over 60 pounds of torque until you're past ~ 6400rpm.

Now here's a sample dyno for a KTM 1290 SuperDuke. It's delivering over 70 pounds of torque before you hit 3,000 rpm and over 80 pounds from 3,800 rpm. On the street this bike is an absolute beast, you would think it has a nuclear powerplant just delivering an endless amount of power in any gear.

Comparatively speaking, I stand by my statement that they are relatively gutless and it's primarily due to a lack of displacement, which is why I pine for a 1200cc triple. Yamaha is the only Japanese company with a history of building 4 stroke triples going back to the late 70's. They've had a hit with the MT09 and everyone loves the sound and feel of a triple......so why not expand on that and deliver a world beater?

I think the market for the MT-09 is larger than the market for the 1290 SuperDuke. No doubt it’s a killer machine, but in the current world economy I don’t think Yamaha wants to go after it. If they did, they’d have come up with a V-Max replacement (although maybe ones in the works, who knows?)
