Got myself a new tank bag, a SW Motech Tank Bag Pro. Beautiful bag with an amazing locking mechanism.
The bag sits very stable on the tank with minimal movement.
I am still worried the bag may leave some scuff marks, particularly when taking it off road.
I am think of putting some clear plastic cover underneath but i am worried that the adhesive may affect the paint in the the long run.
Can anyone offer some advice on that?

Great choice, I had the same tank bag on my S10 and my Stelvio. 3m sells a clear mask film that my son put on both bikes for me. This pic doesn't really show what's on there, but that film is awesome at protecting the paint. It's available in matte and gloss too!

I've used adhesive shelf paper for years on all prone to scuff areas..........easy to apply and it removes with no adhesive left behind.
A roll of the paper will cover a lot of surface. I use it where the tank bag rubs and on the side of the tank where my knees rub.

I spray the area/tank to be applied with 75/% water and 25% alcohol solution to float it into place and then squeegee the moisture out.

If your was bike was black, or blue, or (gasp) one of those non-shining colours……. I wouldn’t worry about protecting the paint. But since you have the highly coveted YELLOW then by all means it needs to preserved. I covered the top of my tank with 3M stone guard and my Givi tank bag has definitely left it’s mark on the film.

I have the smaller version tank bag and ring as the OP and it actually has never left a mark on my tank, infact it doesn't really touch the tank it is kinda suspended by the tank ring setup off the tank.
Now I can't say that about the area closes to the seat, my Klim Badlands sure wore the paint off...LOL
