So, basically 7 years of the same, except the rims and some minor part updates.
Which seems to be Yamahas style. I bought a new Yamaha Grizzly atv in 2008 and it went a long time with just BNG and minor improvements. I’ve still got it and it still does everything I need it to.

I put just over 16,500 miles on my Tenere in a year. Most I’ve ever put on any motorcycle or vehicle for that matter in a year. Gas, tires, and oil. And I ride it hard. Two up, off road, on road, loaded with too much camp gear, and it is fantastic.

I’ve customized it to fit my riding style and I don’t know what I would change in a new model.

Plus you have a great group of enthusiasts on this forum. Someone is always eager to help and give good advice or a good deed. A+ in my book.

I have put 72K miles on my 2013 Gen 1. I have "new bike i'tis", and was hoping to see something more. Waited (okay, procrastinated), from last year, and with this info, I need to make sure I want to stay with the S10, and then buy a new one from the last several years, as they are the same.

First world problem...

We'll, you know, except for the addition of ES, integrated heated grips, new display, CC as standard, completely redesigned clutch, gear indicator, windscreen adjuster, vibration reduction risers, aluminum side stand, LED signals as STD, etc. Yes, just the same. :D

No problem. Why did you buy your S10?

Have any of those reasons changed?

Really? Would you really consider a BMW, KTM, Ducati or Triumph now? They didn't measure up 7 years ago. None of those reasons has changed.

70k is a great start. Where do you want to go?

I have to remind myself that this bike is “new” to me as I’ve only owned it for a little more than a year. It still puts a grin on my face every time I ride it.

There are a few minor things that are/were easily changed to my riding style.

I do get the “new” bike infatuation. I just don’t know what I would want Yamaha to change for me to spend my hard earned dollars for.

Was just talking Gen 2, not the differences.

After owning and touring on several Honda ST1300's (loved them), and a BMW RT, I wanted a bike that I would not worry about going down a crappy road, or dirt/rock road. This bike has been great opening roads that I would not want to go on with those bikes, although they would do it.

Okay, I do have to admit that my Harley Ultra Classic was a great bike for long distance stuff, and after 60K+ miles, never had any mechanical issues.

Have any of those reasons changed?

Not really, just the sport touring bikes have always been one of my favorite type of bike. But I would be back in the same dilemma. Another reason to update is for the ES, and CC. Yes I have had both on my BMW, and the CC on my Harley. They do spoil you.

BTDT with the BMW. I really liked my BMW RT, just not all the stuff that was breaking. Triumph is getting more interesting, as they have really stepped up in reliability over the years. KTM, only smaller dirt bike. And Ducati, no thank you. Fun bikes, but for me not worth the $$ to buy or maintain.

We will see. Could even buy, or have two bikes.

I will stick it out for one more year and hope for the best. Frankly, no other bike in the current ADV category hits all the sweets spots for me, including reliability, price point, and drive shaft.

I just rolled over 64,000 miles today on my 2014 S10. I've got some trips planned that'll put me well into the mid 70 thousands between now and the end of this coming summer. I've never put this many miles on a bike in this amount of time, and those climbing numbers on the odometer did get me thinking about buying a new S10. Then I saw the 2020 model and realized that I'd have to not only buy the bike, but also set aside a couple grand more for a paint job and powdercoating. Might have to hold onto the hope that if there is a 2021 model, they don't use the spinner from an old game of Twister to choose the color scheme.

Yeah, the current color combo is bizarre but some people are into bizarre and that’s OK. With all the buzz going to the T7, I wouldn’t expect any changes to Our bike for several years... most likely 5 years.

I'm not one of those riders who wants something new and different every model year, especially when the "new and different" means that they changed the shape of the headlights or use Jackson Pollock as an inspiration for a paint job. I'm happy with the 2014; if they produce one in 2021 that looks exactly like it, I'd buy it.

I was sorry to see that they've dropped the non-ES version from the line.

23K miles on my ‘17 Cobalt blue bike and will probably move to a Gen 3 if Yamaha makes one with significant changes. Hopefully, less weight and more power with standard heated grips and next Gen ABS. Heated seat would be nice too!

Hmmmm…."more power". How much more? She's not a slug; compare 0-60 times with other bikes. "Less weight"....remember that she's designed to carry a s**t ton of weight....on AND off road; also, I personally like her weight when I'm riding in a 20+mph side wind. If she had self-cancelling turn signals I would likely forget, and cancel manually anyway; been doing it for too long to break the habit. The one "wish" feature that I don't remember seeing mentioned is an electric windshield. The RT, ST1300, and FJR spoiled me, but neither would I buy a new model just to get one. Like Eric posted, has the reason(s) you bought her in the first place changed? Are the alternatives any better? She's still the best bang for the buck....regardless of her "shortcommings".

All true but 20 more hp is feasible and a loss of 20-30lbs would be a blessing (on me and the bike!). Factory Rekluse would seal the deal.

yes year one was best for colors. I have now had both black and now blue!
during my 5 years with out bike I debated about what I would get when I got another one.
Africa twin. triumph. GS. GSA. F650. 990 all the sorts. but came back to gen 1 in the color I always wanted! just cause it works. goes when you ask starts when you ask. its the 4runner/taco/land cruiser of the bike world

I'm as deep as a puddle when it comes to what I'd want on a new bike. Put the colour TFT off a GS on it and I'd be happy lol. It's got enough power for normal day to day stuff, it's heavy but it carries it well.

Color preference is always a subjective thing, for sure. I'm pretty flexible with it; I've actually liked more of the color schemes for the S10 than I've disliked them. In general I hate black vehicles, so any year vehicle with that scheme goes in my "no-go" column. Over the different model years of the S10 I've been "meh" about the sand colored one, and the matte gray one. But this year, with that white, black, blue and gold clown car palette, would be the first model they've made that I wouldn't want to buy simply because of the paint. Even a vinyl wrap wouldn't cure it, because it would still have those ridiculous blue rims.

I even like the yellow one, like gv550's ride pictured above, and yellow isn't normally a color I think of for a bike. It looks good on the S10. The blue color on Baldknob's bike looks good too, though I prefer the shade on the '14.

With regard to all the rest of the stuff, I honestly love this bike the way it is. I don't need more horsepower on it, or more gadgets. It's a mule for two up loaded touring, it's reliable as a hammer, and it's never let me down. I wouldn't trade its current features and reliability for 20 more HP or 50 less pounds.
