Oh my! Another Kaw 350 Bighorn rider! I had one back in the 70's and had a blast on it. I also spent nearly two years looking at all the other larger adventure bikes and talking with lots of folks, including mechanics at dealerships. I hadn't even considered the Teneres, and was leaning heavily towards a BMW GS or GSA or Triumph Tiger 1200 XCA, but kept hearing over and over about the bulletproof reliability of the Super Teneres, compared to any other Adv bikes. And especially compared to the BMW's, Triumphs, and KTM's. And also kept hearing how capable they are, even though they aren't as flashy and maybe not as fast as some of the others, but at my age, I don't need fast and don't really give a rip about flashy. And looking at every feature of the different brands. I knew I had to have electronic cruise control and REALLY wanted shaft drive and easily adjustable suspension, but when I saw the prices, the Super Tenere was a no-brainer. After I decided to go with the Tenere, it took me several months to finally find one that was just what I wanted. You'll LOVE the Super Tenere!
Hey it’s great to hear from a fellow survivor of the Bighorn! Gotta admit, a fun ballsy, screamin’ two-smoke!!
Back story: Bought from original owner in 2006, it had 966 miles, garage kept, had not been ridden since 1979!!
The guy had drained the tank. Like new!! Original tires, owners manual, Kawasaki owners card, tool kit.
P.O took great care of it, but was scared to ride it!! He confessed, “I‘m not really a motorcycle guy! " haha!
It was mint, but I went through all the seals, split the case and all. Rotary Valve! Ran like a raped ape!! I got lucky.
Sorry, got wrapped up on the Bighorn! I have yet to ride a Tenere. I have ridden a GS and was pleasantly surprised!!
There are several nice and reasonably priced 2007- 2012 GS’s for sale. I’m really partial to shaft drive, I admit.
Looking forward to riding the S10 for sure! I’ve only sat on one and it fit me real well! I’m 6’2” 255#. It felt slim.
The GS is a wide ride, but that does go away once your rolling. Having had Beemers and doing all of our own service,
I know the cost factor! Everything I've read, watched, and heard sure is got me looking HARD at the Yamahammer!
Like you, I don’t care if it ain’t cool anymore. Comfortable and dependable and adaptable is the goal!
Thanks for your input! Heres some Picts of the F-9. ✌
