Hey all,

New member from Pittsburgh with a new to me 2013 Tenere. Drove about 7 hours round trip to grab this thing at what I thought was a great deal. I was really excited about the Penske rear suspension as I plan to ride this 2 up on some short camping trips, and probably 1 up on some longer trips. I have an older FJR we took our first multi day trip on and knew I wanted a Tenere to camp off. I have a lot of experience camping off my wrr, but wanted a bigger ADV bike too. IMG_1444.JPG

A couple questions for the members maybe. This thing is showroom clean especially for 28k miles, and the previous owner took great care and kept records. He has listed Graves MCCT in the manual, I think this means he put on the Graves Manual Chain tensioner. I actually did more reading and am almost positive it is, but a confirmation here might be great. 5k miles ago he put on the penske shot and did RaceTech GV's. I think this means the front end was also serviced with Racetech GV. After some brief research I believe this is the Gold Valve kit. With only 5k miles, I think i should be good for a while before having to do any rebuilds/services, but can someone confirm this? Also the spring is a blue spring ending in 850, does this mean it is an 850 lb spring? If so I think I might be a little better off with a higher spring rate for pillion riding.

The last thing is I was super excited it has the Madstad bracket on it. However, the accessory bar appears to be blocking 98% of the adjust ability of the bracket. I tried to move it below, but there is a little pin holding it in this spot specifically. Is this the factory madstad accessory bar? I don't get what the point of this is as I can now only tilt the screen, I can't move it up or down.

Thanks all and sorry for all the questions right off the bat. excited to finally have an adventure bike.

Thanks I thought so, will probably just need to do more research about the suspension, just a bit excited. I did lie though I had one other question about the OEM panniers. The locking mechanism is really stiff. I've read this complaint from others, but is there any fix/solution to this? I think maybe some kind of lubrication could free it up a bit. I'm afraid of breaking a key, I've read of this actually happening to other owners.

Welcome aboard.
Yes to the manual cam chain tensioner and gold valve ideas.
Not sure about the blue spring.
Somebody with a MadStad will need to chime in on that.

I have learned that if you push down on the lid above the lock, that you are opening/closing, the key turns much more easily. The locks really do suck. I don't use them enough to get better bags; and I really like that when the bags are off, there's not much framework. And welcome to the world of Tenere.

Thanks all again for the welcomes. So far very happy with the bike, and the girlfriend gave the OK to sell the FJR. Going to put a Mitas e07 on the rear and a shinko 804 up front and we are going to do our first two up camping trip next weekend for just one night to test it out.

I have a question regarding light bar mounts, I know alot of people are buying amazon lights and just mounting them with supplied brackets. I bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KV9LYZE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1, and found the brackets don't work. I think I can use the Rigid 40690 (https://www.amazon.com/Rigid-Industries-40690-Cradle-Mount/dp/B007NKW84Q/ref=sr_1_6?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1537444363&sr=1-6&keywords=6"+lightbar+bracket) bracket under the headlight assembly, but can't find specific information on which ones people used. Can someone confirm this for me, I didn't want to start a whole new thread just for that question.

Thanks,
