I am a new forum member and I just bought the new 2017 Super Tenere below (dealer picture off its website). I pick it up Saturday (400 mile round trip). I have never seen or ridden a Super Tenere so I am making a leap of faith.

I am trading in my 2014 BMW R1200R (picture below). When I bought the BMW, I should have gotten the GS but I grew up in the 1970's and I wanted a plain motorcycle like I grew up with, so that is why I went with that BMW model. It has been a great bike and I enjoyed it but after about 100-200 miles my legs, hips, etc. start hurting from the leg bend. I am 55 years old, 6 feet tall and ride a dirt bike off road so the adenture touring fits me better. I did not want to put the big money out for a new BMW GS, and I am more of a Japanese bike guy (all I ever owned until the BMW), so the Yamaha makes sense. Plus, Yamaha is my favorite brand because of its quality and durability. In fact, Yamaha is what I ride off road (2015 YZ250F). I am looking forward to picking up the new bike.

Congratulations on the new bike ! Will be interesting to hear how it works out for you. Are you from the USA ? I am very seriously considering upgrading from my 2013 Tenere to a newer Tenere with cruise control.

Welcome aboard and you are in the middle of our group age demographic. (It is actually really broad.) Anyway, the Tenere will feel really big till you get used to it. I rode a 1200R model this summer and felt like my legs were folded up.

That's how I feel. That is probably ideal for short rides on windy roads, but I like to ride longer distances. If you ride too far on a bike like that, your legs and hips will be hurting toward the end of the ride.

Welcome from South Florida.
I also select my bikes based largely how they fit me. I’m 6’-2” and have bad knees. The Tenere fits me very well. I use mine primarily for touring and it has proven to be very comfortable on long trips.
Hope you have a similar experience! -JEP-

Hello and welcome and congratulations on your excellent choice of new motorcycle! (I wish we were offered that colour over here in the U.K. there again, I love the yellow and red you guys get too!)

Thanks. I did not have a lot of choice on the color. The dealer had a dark blue one too, but the dealer seemed to be pushing this one on me and in some ways I prefer this color so I rolled with it. It is very hot here in TX so light colors are better than dark colors. I don' t know that I love this color, but it is acceptable given the available alternatives.

Welcome aboard! There were quite a few of us who put a deposit down on the Tenere when it was introduced to the US based only on pictures and reviews from our Aussie and South African friends...I think you will find it much to your liking!

1200R is a fun ride but I have to agree, it feels like my knees are in my chest. I think you will like the Super Ten better

I sat on a new 1000 V-Strom and the Kawasaki Versys 1000 (both somewhat like the Tenere) at a dealership and they felt much more comfortable for my legs than my r1200r. Plus, I usually ride two up and I am sure my GF will like the extra room as well.

Welcome. You're going to be surprised at how well this bike eats up twisty roads. My kid has an R6, and the Tenere keeps up until it runs out of grip. And the R6 HAS to stay on pavement.
