Finally purchased my 2012 xt1200z. Vent from Pan European to this bike to be able to also do some gravel and back roads.
Now i just have to figure out the suspension. The previous owner weight approximatly 260 lbs, but my Weight is 180. The bike is rather stiff for me based on his setup. Anyone that can post me an Proper setup and based on that i can do the fine tuning my self. The back roads and mountain roads here in western Norway is rather bad, and i world like more to flote over the bumps and pot holes.
Kind regard

Welcome :)
About the suspension, The front fork have all 3 adjustment (rebound, compression, and preload). From what you write I would adjust compression. The preload actually dont change much...only how much the spring is compressed, nothing else..so this will not get is less stiff, when you press down on suspension.

The back, sadly is missing the compression adjustment. So the only thing to adjust here (in your case), is the rebound.

NOTE:
If the preload (both front and rear), is adjustet so much, that the bike is completly raised (you cant lift it up, when standing on ground with both wheels), then it will make it less stiff, to adjust preload.
But I don't think it is possible to adjust the preload that much.

First off, welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your choice of bike. Not sure how many miles/ kilometres your bike has under it’s wheels, but you might consider upgrading or changing the cam chain tensioner. Lots to read about it on here.

With regard to the suspension, there is a good thread on here which may help you a lot, https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/suspension-adjustment.13041/

Da er vi jo to :)
(That makes two of us)
Hvis jeg husker rett, skal preload bak gi 57 mm. nedsig med aktuell last av fører, passasjer, bagasje.
(IIRC, rear preload should be adjusted to 57 mm. sag with whichever weight of rider/pillion/luggage)

The best that I've found is one helmet on the display equates to 200LBS, plus or minus. The compression/rebounding will depend on what kind of ride you prefer, and the road conditions. It will take some experimentation.

Velkommen bror, the OEM suspension works well for riders 80-100 kgs. Have you tried winding the suspension all the way down???

Welcome to the forums mate.

Gen 1 bikes (yours) have a very suspect cam chain tensioner in them. They fail anywhere from 40-80K . As cheap insurance, and if you don't know if it has been done already, I would do it at your earliest chance.

Sounds like the rear suspension is your biggest issue right now, since you own a 2012 which would be a non ES model there is a big knob on the rear shock that the previous much heavier owner probably turned in as far as it would go, if I was you I would try turning that knob counter clockwise for a lighter rider and see if that helps.
