Just seen an advert in July Bike magazine (UK) for an advertised 50/50 tyre?
Can find little on the internet so far.
Anyone got anymore info or even tried a set on S10?
Looks like a modern tyre with a Tourance pattern but with L shaped Knobblies. On/Off road compound. In fact it reminds of the Tkc70 without the central band on the rear tyre.
Maybe worth investigating.

Link to recent press release below from Avon UK that the new TrekRider is available after being launched at the Intermot bike show Cologne Germany earlier this month. However none of the online dealers are listing them yet as available in stock. I contacted Avon UK (where they are going to be manufactured) and the customer services dept said they hope to be available in the next few weeks in UK.

Hi Greg
I guess time will tell once they have them in stock and at the resellers. I hope so as they are the only British manufacturer and for us Brits it should be cheaper seeing as sterling is so low against the euro dollar and all! Eventhough of course Avon tyres are owned by the US company Cooper tires!

I think the T is a speed rating of 118 mph.
These tyres are in the popular sizes to suit the larger adventure sport bikes like S10 and BMW 1200 GS and should suit tubeless tyres as that is what these type of bikes use. The Africa twin uses tubes as you rightly say but in most cases you can fit a tube into a tubeless tyre.

Bumping the thread. The Trekrider is still unobtainium, not even listed on Avon's web sites. The wife wanted to try some for her GSA LC, but they aren't even going to offer that size, at least from the .pdf's listed sizes for the initial offering... that hasn't happened yet.

Makes me wonder if someone managed to get themselves killed while testing these tires and they just dropped off the map. It's unusual to not see *any* info on a tire that is about to come out. No magazine reviews, no ads except for a few print ads like MOA and Bike.

My link from an earlier post works better than dogdaze one.
I'll get an update on from Avon tyres Uk today and post up.

Than you! ::008:: I did se the links in this thread, but when I went directly to the Avon sites and searched with their tools, no results. I also understand the 90+ day lead times for magazines, meaning the ads could have been placed when they believed the tires would be ready for market in 90 days, even though they didn't have any at that time.

Sorry Eric I called them too late today and they've gone for the weekend so I'll try Monday. I'll have a look at some of the uk dealers online to see if they have any news and hopefully stock.

Reviving an old thread.......for those in the USA looking at the Avon TrekRider. I just noticed that a number of re-sellers in the USA, like Revzilla, now appear to show inventory which can be ordered. I've been looking and waiting as I need new tires myself. To be honest though, knowing the TrekRider is available has not helped me choose between the TrekRider or the TrailRider.

Trailriders are marked way down on Revzilla. I put a set on my S10 and like them so far, but I've only put a few 100 miles on them, so just getting used to them now.

Thank you for the feedback and correct, the Trailrider tire is marked down quite nicely, but overall they are only about $20 less per tire (not chump change but not that drastic either). Despite good reviews, and the price, I decided to take the risk and purchase as set Trekriders for the more aggressive tread pattern taking the risk of some loss of on pavement performance.

I'll take some photos once their on and post observations and feedback at a later date.

Hi.
What are your thoughts so far?
Described as a 50/50 tyre have you tried them off paved roads?

Bump! Any users wish to give feedback on these tires (tyres genuine English spelling) fitted to a S10?
Revzilla have a few good reviews now I see with 4* ratings so seem to be good. Hopefully somebody comes back with some feedback.

I am thinking of trying the avons as my next tire, so called 50/50 looks a little bit more street to me . say 60/40 street to dirt, as where I live is mostly paved over and only occasionally getting on gravel, thought I might move slightly more street....I am currently trying to wear out a set of mitas eo7 dakars, they are not cooperating , probably be 6 more months and 6k more miles to kill them... that would be well over 10k in milage , just don't like how they feel at speed , wiggle and worry shimmy and shake is the dance they like at speed... never felt that with the OEM that came with the bike or the k60s ... I think when its all done we all will find that the k60s are the best tire ever made for this bike... well not the worst tire in any case.... so the search continues for the perfect tire to match the perfect bike we all ride.... I could be tempted to try some of the other mitas tires that are more knobby, maybe they don't wiggle when you cross over the center strip as you pass slower traffic....
