That is good news, did you use my design?
I did. Thanks for putting in the hard work for the rest of us. I took your drawing to a machine shop, perfect fit. Used the same spring as you did, just 600lb version.

Good news, glad to help. Had plenty of ideas and help from the various motorcycle communities over the years.

Hello Karl,
Did you by any chance measured the top & bottom seats diameter? Your spacer adapter shows a 56mm ID, do you think a 2.25" ID spring would fit on the shock existing seats?
Thanks for your involvment in this, great tread.

Finally got out for 100 miles of riding in mixed conditions today. The sag issue is definitely solved and overall suspension performance is significantly better than stock.

The 850lb spring seems to work for for me as it should, and I'm impressed with the valving, both front and rear.

A three week road trip starts next week. I look forward to really putting RT's work to the test and plan to offer feedback to them as well as here.

2.25 inches is 57mm. I measured the existing lower seat as 55mm diameter with a taper (because it is cast) this correlates with the existing spring of around 56mm inner diameter at the bottom end, and 59mm at the top end and about 62mm through the guts. I did not measure the top seat sorry, however as the top diameter is 59mm it will be a close thing or even a no go.

I think you could re-design the mod with a 2.25 inch diameter spring (and shorter) and a custom top mount (like the way RT did it), this is with a re-used the bottom mount. It would help with mass and clearance (although both are fine with my first version) as well as possibly a cheaper spacer to make. It also eliminates the packer I used between the spring and the top mount.

RT's second collar has the following measurements (taken from their site):

Part # SPSC 56526075

OD1 - 55.9
ID1 - 52.1
ID2 - 60
L1 - 75
OD2 - 69.5
L2 - 12.5

My guess is that measurements do not have to be exact. The first collar was SPSC 57525925 which varies slightly in OD an ID from the second one.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that Regulator, can you tell me if Racetech re-used the stock bottom removable seat without any modification or adapter added.

@ Karl, Thanks for sharing those details, I'm starting to get somewhere with this, FYI 60mm ID springs are available...

Thanks again Gents.
Cheers

A 60mm ID spring could work with the top mount, but the perch on the existing bottom seat (outer diameter) could well be too small to hold all that well.

The SRSP 5815152 spring installed on Regulator latest setup is listed as having a 60.2 mm ID, they re-installed the stock bottom seat.
If the center of the coiled wire sits within the outer diameter of the seat it should be ok, it must be very close to the edge of it (depending on the wire diameter).
Regulator do you have a picture similar to the one you took of your first setup?

Thanks for that Regulator, looks all right to me.
I'm ordering a 60 mm ID spring, looks like a straight swap.
Will deal with sag with spring pre-load, not spring rate.
Hopefully I can get my magic carpet ride... and have a useable EAS preload
Will report back on my findings.

On hold... looks like the 60 mm ID is not a straight swap, Regulator latest spring is 60.2 mm ID at the top and 58.2 mm ID at the bottom.
Karl mentioned that he measured the bottom seat at 55 mm ID with an unknown OD...
Looking deeper into this...

Mine has the 600lb spring to accommodate my 300lb carcass. So far I'm liking it, nice to have proper sag with some extra adjustment available for a loaded up bike. Has anybody changed the fork springs to match? I'm feeling it's a bit too soft in the front now.

RT did fork springs and valves when they did my shock.

Very pleased with results.
Hello Regulator,
I think you had a trip planned, how was it with the Racetech setup? I'm curious with the rear high rate spring, how is the rear shock revalving? any harshness?

I rode 6,450 miles over the past 21 days. The trip included highway, twisties, and dirt. I rode both loaded and with no luggage, and I carried a passenger for a brief spell.

I'm now satisfied with the RT setup and ES. The sag numbers are right where I want them, handling is balanced front and rear, and on the fly adjustments are welcome when needed.

I characterize the setup as firm overall, but not harsh. The 21 possible adjustments for each preload setup allows for adequate tweaking to find the proper feel for me.

I've mentioned before that I'm no suspension expert. My overall experience with RT was very good, and my recommendation to those interested in following this particular suspension trail is to have an honest discussion with RT about your abilities and riding style. Let them (the experts) determine the best springs and valving for your particular situation, then get out there and ride......

I just wanted to give a big shout out and thank you to Karl for his research and effort for this very simple solution. I'm 200lbs on the nose and 6ft. Wjbertrand had a mini tech day at his place today and we we're able to swap my rear spring with the summit racing 550 and Karl's adaptor (had a guy at my work make one out of a 5in round stock aluminum).

All I can say is WOW...the rear end is very planted now. No more pogoing over hard pavement transitions and those mid turn bumps aren't scary anymore.
