The topic of other ADV training courses recently came up elsewhere on the Forum. This landed in my e-mail yesterday and I forward it in entirety.

I went through one of the prototypes for this course and the authors comments regarding where it fits with other commercial courses is accurate.

The MSF now has its first few RiderCoaches certified to conduct the new MSF AdventureBike RiderCourse, following this month's training sessions in De Leon Springs, Florida. RiderCoach Trainers Mark Parco and Jeff Smith led the courses, using Pan America ADV bikes on loan from MSF member company Harley-Davidson.

Additional three-day certification sessions are planned for February and March in preparation for this year's rollout of the new course. MSF coaches who currently conduct Basic RiderCourses or DirtBike Schools are eligible to apply for ADV certification. The new ADV RiderCoach Guides, range cards, and other materials are ready to ship.

"Congratulations to the new ADVRC coaches, our ace trainers Mark and Jeff, and our national staff for getting to this milestone through challenging times," said Robert Gladden, MSF vice president of training operations. "We're excited that we'll be able to offer training sites and students a brand new course that's designed for an increasingly popular category of motorcycle."

Gladden noted that the ADVRC is not designed to compete with well established ADV courses that are mostly aimed at more serious off-roaders.

"This MSF offering is intended for a rider who either recently purchased an ADV bike or is thinking about it, and has little to no experience in the dirt," he said. "It's there to help riders develop good off-road fundamentals, give them some confidence, and safely make that leap from asphalt to dirt. And it can be a stepping stone if someone wants to take their ADV riding to the next level with a more high-performance training course."

Coaches and training sites interested in MSF ADVRC certification should contact Jun Villegas, manager of field training operations, at jvillegas@msf-usa.org.
