Most durable skidplate?

For those who actually use their skid plates, which is most durable? I've got an AltRider, and the rear bracket folded up the first few times I crossed a log. Is there another brand that holds up better? Is there something that can be done to the AltRider to make it a bit more durable? If this has been asked before, please feel free to point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Ours is the most bomb proof, no question.
For your Altrider, you could have someone weld a thicker plate to the bottom. That would help.
I’ve seen and worked every skid plate available.

The next ones down from Tabasco's are the T-Rex and the ACD.

Hi Nate. Welcome from BC. From experience, I can tell you that the genuine Yamaha accessory skidplate is almost as durable as tin foil- duct taped to the bottom of the engine. About as useful as the sheet metal skid plate on a one ton 4x4. I'll either be doing some substantial welding and gusseting on mine, or replacing it altogether with something better built.

Can anyone speak to T-Rex's lower exhaust protection? This photo from their site, with the exhaust peeking down, keeps me from pulling the trigger. Or is it just an odd angle? For comparison, here is a HepocBecker that seems to have more coverage.

ACD doesn't appear to be making skidplates (for S10s) anymore.

There is a difference with the catalytic converter between gen1 and gen2. The HB pic shows a gen1 bike with the smaller cat. The t-rex pic shows a gen2 with the fat cat.

I have abused my Hepco Becker plate quite a bit and at times needed to take a sledge hammer to it to bend it back in shape, but overall is is very solid and hardware, mounts and welds are holding up.

I hav considered mounting a piece of high density plastic to the bottom of mine. Kind of a glide/wear item. Especially now ACD is not making them any more.

I consider it a wear item. I usually remove it when changing the oil, give it a new coat of black spray paint, a few whacks to straighten it, inspect and clean and reinstall.

What’s the warranty ? What’s the price ? Does the plate fit with any brands of crash bars ?

Warranty, "If" you have an issue with it because you have jumped your bike off the Grand Canyon and you damage it, contact me and I will get you fixed back up.

Price, custom made for each customer. Not a 'set price'. Different options available.

Its typically used with Altrider crash bars, but we have never have anyone not be able to use the crash bars they own. So at this time, it fits all crash bars that I know of. If someone is ordering, we go over all these details and have a few conversations. This is not a mass produced product like 99.9999 % of the world.

This guy contacted me a few years ago to let me know he was on the mend. He was doing 80 across the desert and ran off the road. Cartwheeled his bike a bunch of times, he got carried off. The tow truck driver took this picture. He sent this picture and then called me to say,- The bike is trashed, but everything around the engine is fine and your skid plate "Vault" protected everything........ Bike was toast, but he was very impressed with the skid plate, he called to tell me this story..........
