More power

The true increase in power is linked to mechanical modifications, perhaps changing the injectors for larger ones , and a larger throttle body, so that the engine breathes better and can burn that fuel. But above all it is necessary to raise the compression rate, just a little (maybe 12: 1). Just have to wait for someone to decide

We are in the same boat. I can't imagine doing 140 on this beast!
I did it....and wasn't meaning to....never crossed my mind that she would. I don't know where the top end is; it was still accelerating when I saw the speed, and backed off. Stable and effortless. But, I do run 90/10 tires. Generally, I don't get up to those speeds. And, now that I know she has the capability, I pay more attention.

I've gotten that fast on a different bike and it felt the same as 125. Since the Super Ten can do that, you ought to be able to easily imagine 140.
:p

So funny backstory to "more power". Back in the mid 80's my buddy took delivery of a brand new Kawasaki Ninja 900. Very first year model. I remember like yesterday what it was like to ride that bike. I truly believe that motorcycle was the turning point for bike manufacturers.

I was "cruising" down the backstretch of the Navy base in 4th gear. I looked down and was doing 110mph!! It was so smooth I felt I could put my kickstand down. My KZ750, I owned at the time, could easily do 110mph. But you had to hang on tight and really pay attention to where you were pointed. Those old Japanese bikes were some of the most ill handling machines at speed. Spooky comes to mind.

Not so with that Ninja 900. Smooth as butter. The Super Tenere reminds me of that bike a lot. I'm really enjoying this bike!!

I don't know about it was THE motorcycle that was the turning point....but, in my opinion, it was one of them; you're definately right about the mid-80s be the turning point though. To ME, the bike that caused the biggest change was the GSX-Rs. (never had one by the way) My SECA was called a "café" style bike....it had the same frame, engine, and geometry, as the Maxim cruiser. The Gixers were the first serious attempt at a track bike. First time I rode one, my thoughts were "fast & light", followed shortly with damn, this bike is uncomfortable. The Ninjas and Interceptors followed close behind, with my overweight, but totally comfortable, smooth as silk FJ, bringing up the rear. I had only thought I wanted a race bike; until my first ride on the FJ.

Fastest I've gotten my S10 was 127mph. Felt like it had more to go and I had my bags on. I ran out of room so I let off.

A bike that comes to mind in the 80s was the Honda V65 Magna. I still kind of want one! But I do remember the Ninjas in the 80s as being the sport bike to get for speed!

As I used to tell the sport bike kids when they caught up with the fat, old guy at the gas station, The FJR may be a big girl, but big girls can still dance.

That FJR is another underrated bike. My boss had one of those. Very powerful and smooth machine. His even had an electric windscreen adjustment.

My opinion No Tenere can do 140 mph, saw 122 once on my 2013 and no it was not maxed out but another 18 mph no way, and don’t forget the speedometer read at least 6 mph faster than actual speed . But that’s just my opinion.

most 50/50 tires are not rated for those speeds,,,, I tested my bike (once ) to 110 , fast enough for me....

I know you don't know me....all I can say is don't tell fish stories; which is why my stories are usually boring. From what I understand, reading on the forum, there is a substantial difference between Gen 1 & 2. I personally suspect that the improvements have continued since '14. I've read about limited throttle below 3k rpm; yet I haven't experienced ANY limited throttle. And, as hard as it was still pulling at 140, 150 is where is suspect the top end is. At least "indicated", because I also understand there will be speedometer error; which is also improved with the Gen 2.

In 2004 I made a top end run on a long straight road with the shoulders mowed. At 130 I ran over a skunk. No damage. Never looked back but it was a warning I took serious. Bike pegged 175 but the speedos are way off. Bike was rock steadyIMG_0001.JPG

Not sure I understand what you typed, Are you saying you had your Tenere up to 140 mph and you think it could do 150 mph ?

Yes, the bike was still pulling well at 140; my GUESS is that it MIGHT pull 150. I'd be positive about 145 though; that's a lot of air for a brick to push. By the way, I'm not a top speed junky. I go for the bikes that do well at "real world speeds", which to me is 85mph and below. You cover 88' per second at 60mph. That's a US football field in just over three seconds. And, when you consider the average reaction time(s) are 1.5-2.5 seconds....s**t happens REAL quick at triple digit speeds.

140 indicated on a Gen1 bike would be about 128 actual. We've had a number of people find 127 was about their max, maybe a touch more depending on wind/windshield/etc so I could believe indicating 140 or a bit more.

But the tires would be a real risk to the rider's life. Nearly all of our tires are rated S or T, which means 112 mph or 118 mph respectively, and those are only valid when new.

I probably should ask...."How would your life be different if the Super Tenere had an additional 40 hp and would you use that additional Horsepower (hp)?" One of these days...I'm going to use a GPS-type speedometer..take off my bags and maybe Rumbux Bars and go for it and put this baby to bed. I can tell you...I know Sierra. He used to make his living on a motorcycle. He has had MANY bikes including sport bikes and FJR..etc. He has had some of the best training a motorcyclist can have. I would trust what he says. I don't want to put his business online.

Mine clocks 130 on the flat no problem. I reckon if i held on it would push to 135 easy. But i couldn't say i would be comfortable at that speed and its not why i bought it.
