I had an opportunity come up to make a multi day overnight trip with a couple of guys from the Idaho dual sport club. Touring around Montana seeing old mining ghost towns.
Bikes were:
KTM 690- Ron
BMW GS adventure 800- Ed
BMW GS 850 - Dan
Yamaha Super Tenere - Mak10
I found out about this ride from the club website, and I was a primitive camp ride for a loop of 6 days. 50/50 mix of pavement and dirt.
1st day was from home to meet up, as they were all coming from the Boise area. We met in Dubois, Idaho. I had not had the opportunity to ride with any of the guys in the group, nor met them in person. You meet the nicest guys riding motorcycles.
We meet in Dubois at 11:30 and take off on I15. Cutting off there we hit dirt roads towards the Gravelly Range mountains.
Dan had the misfortune of his bmw gps coming out of its mount and falling on the trail. Luckily we found it and it was still functioning, but had cracked the screen. We rode along the continental divide passing Black Butte along the way.
We had planned to camp at a remote campground, but the biting flies were horrendous. It was only 1:30 and we were making really great time, We decided to head on into Virginia City and see the town and get a campsite.
